Police in New York state shot dead a woman in her home in April 2022 after she pulled a knife at them, newly released video shows.
The incident took place in the town of Hyde Park, about 90 miles north of New York City, and involved city and state police officers.
The officers were responding to a domestic dispute in the home that Jamie Feith, 34, shared with her partner and their three children. The shocking video begins with an officer escorting Feith, who has marks on her face, out of a room in the house.
Shortly after leaving the room, Feith appears to pull something out of her pants. The cops start yelling, “Knife!” repeatedly and a radio call: “911, send an extra, we have one at gunpoint.” A brief struggle ensues with Feith’s partner yelling, “Don’t shoot her!”
Then gunfire is heard, followed by sobs. The three officers involved have been named as Hyde Park Officers Joshua Kemlage and Bryan Sweeney, as well as State Trooper Christopher Miller. The shooting is still under investigation by New York Attorney General Letitia James.
DailyMail.com has attempted to contact Feith’s family for comment on the video.
Jamie Feith, shown to her on her mother’s Facebook page, was the mother of three children
The video begins with Feith being escorted out of a room by a police officer. She has visible marks on her face
The officers seemed to have de-escalated the situation until Feith took a knife from her pocket
A 20 second struggle ensued with Feith managing to free herself from the officer, the officer even attempting to use a stun gun on her
A total of four shots can be heard in the video as Feith’s partner sobs and says, ‘No, no, no, no’
The video shows Miller’s body camera as Kemlage is the officer leading her out of the room. The officers appear to have ended the dispute before Feith produced the knife.
When the agents tackle Feith, she eventually manages to wriggle free. At that moment a stun gun is deployed which fails to subdue her. A voice can be heard saying, “Shoot her,” then Kemlage fires twice.
“Don’t shoot her,” says Feith’s partner, after which two more shots are heard. He then says, “No. No. No. No. What does it matter?’ The entire struggle and shooting took place over a 20-second period. Feith was shot in the chest.
When one of the officers takes the knife from the woman’s hand, her partner says, ‘Get off her. Get off her.’ He then begs the officers not to kill him.
She was pronounced dead on the spot. Feith’s family has yet to comment on the video.
New Hyde Town Supervisor Al Torreggiani told the Poughkeepsie Journal that officers began wearing body cameras in March 2022, a month before the shooting.
Torreggiani said he felt the Kemlage would be cleared of any wrongdoing because Feith had a knife.
“It’s tragic anyway, and the cops have to learn to live with it. It’s not easy to pull that trigger and take a life,” Torreggiani told the paper.
According to the Journal, Kemlage has been with the Hyde Park Police Department since January 2020, having previously been with the City of Newburgh Department and formerly a Wappinger Falls officer.
Leading up to her death, Feith regularly posted conspiracy theories about the Covid-19 pandemic.
In her intro, Feith wrote, “If you don’t protect your right to bodily integrity, other rights don’t matter.”
In one post, Feith called the vaccine rollout a “crime against humanity” and compared pharmaceutical companies to Nazi doctors.
