Knife-wielding man is shot dead at a Bowen motel after cops were called to a disturbance

Police have shot and killed a man after a disturbance at a motel.

It is alleged the man went to the back of a motel on Herbert Street in Bowen, in Queensland's Whitsunday region, where a disturbance occurred around 5.30am on Thursday.

Officers and paramedics attended the scene after a member of the public reported the altercation.

He then entered the motel and returned with a large knife, where he began threatening officers and paramedics, police say.

The police then opened fire on the man.

He was already treated at the scene by Queensland Ambulance and police officers, but they were unable to revive him.

He died at the scene and a crime scene has been reported.

“This matter is being investigated on behalf of the State Coroner by Ethical Standards Command, with the investigation overseen by the Crime and Corruption Commission,” a Queensland Police spokesperson said.
