Kmart trialling new checkouts and services: Here’s everything you need to know about the major changes

Kmart Australia has confirmed the changes are happening – with new digital initiatives and services to be trialled.

The Daily Mail understands the new ideas include moving tills from the center of the store to the front, to make way for expanded product lines.

The changes are being tested at the Eastland store in Melbourne – and have already been received by fans of the popular franchise.

One woman posted a video of the ‘new register location’ at the front of the store, admitting she was delighted by the development.

“Having the cash registers in the middle of the store was literally the dumbest move ever,” she said.

“So this is such a good move by Kmart, I hope they do it Australia wide.”

The store began moving the registers to the center of the store in 2015 – but it continues to be a talking point for customers.

This is reflected in the comments on the woman’s video.

‘I couldn’t agree more! I hate the middle counter so much,” said one woman.

“And then they treat you like a thief by checking your receipts on the way out,” said another.

Another laughed at the fact that the ‘store of the future’ is ‘basically the same as everyone else’.

Some people said they don’t care where the till is – they just prefer ‘the staff to be friendlier’.

Kmart told FEMAIL it will have a “range of new store elements and ideas” trialled at the Eastland store over the “next year or so”.

“As a business, we’re always looking for ways to improve our customer experience, so trying new things is just part of what we do.”
