Kmart issues urgent recall on popular Anko baby toy

A popular toy sold at Kmart that can cause ‘serious injury or death’ has been recalled by the Australian retail giant.

Anko’s soft activity ball is a potential choking hazard and may not meet standards for toys designed for children under 3 years old, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has warned.

The multicolored toy consists of rattles at both ends with small balls in plastic domes, which have been found to fall apart. Yahoo reported.

“There is a risk of serious injury or death from choking if young children place the small balls in their mouths,” the recall states.

The ball was sold in Kmart and Target stores, as well as online, between August 3 and October 18.

Shoppers who have purchased the Anko soft activity ball have been warned to immediately stop using the product and ensure it is out of the reach of children.

Customers are urged to return the item to the place of purchase.

Although Kmart changed its returns policy in July, requiring all returned change-of-mind items to have a receipt, this does not apply to defective items.

The Australian product number is 9341110379350 for the ball.

Known for their low prices, Kmart and Target have become firm favorites for Australian shoppers struggling during the national cost of living crisis.

Target began selling Kmart’s Anko products after a $10 billion merger with the two retail giants was announced in 2023.
