An Australian shopper has raised concerns about a popular Kmart Christmas product that has since been pulled from shelves after her husband suffered chest pains that left her fearing for his life.
The Gold Coast mum bought the discount store chain’s Mr and Mrs Claus Cotton Rich Reversible Duvet Cover Set on November 1.
Eager to get into the festive spirit, she laid out the Christmas-themed bedding on her bed.
Two weeks later, her husband woke up early in excruciating pain and begged her to call an ambulance.
She claimed that paramedics told her to remove the duvet from the bed when they arrived because they had reportedly encountered similar complaints from other patients about the same product.
Her husband was taken to hospital, where doctors performed an ECG (electrocardiogram) to check his heart rate and blood tests.
Specialists determined he had no underlying health condition.
The woman also claimed that her son started experiencing asthma symptoms just days after she put the blanket on his bed.
The woman, who lives on the Gold Coast, was left terrified after her husband developed chest pains just two weeks after the couple started using the duvet cover (pictured)
Sle also claimed that the covers emitted a toxic odor that smelled like “jet fuel” when she opened the linens from the package.
The smell did not go away even after she washed the covers several times.
‘I washed them a few times because the smell was terrible. Even after washing them two or three times, the smell was still very strong,” she said Yahoo.
Her husband’s chest pain disappeared the next day after she removed the bedding.
She also claimed that her family is still feeling the effects of the linen several weeks later.
“Now we all have a weird burning sensation in our eyes and stuffy noses,” she said.

The customer has since questioned the health risks associated with the bedding and other accessories sold at Kmart.
‘Got their clothes [these chemicals at lower levels] And does it make people sick?’ she asked.
Other buyers announced on social media that they had similar experiences with the same duvet cover.
“I almost fainted, vomited and had other gastro symptoms, and sudden, sharp, intense jaw and shoulder pain,” one customer wrote.
‘I’m in hospital now waiting for the results, don’t buy this!’
Another customer complained about the smell and compared the smell to a low-quality fan.
“If you’ve ever smelled a burning engine in a cheap pedestal fan, it smells something like this,” they wrote.
A spokesperson for Kmart said that while the product is safe, the retailer has removed the duvet covers from store shelves.
Daily Mail Australia has contacted Kmart for further comment.
