Kmart customer catches staff in ‘bizarre’ act before their morning shift: ‘You’re never going to believe it’
A young shopper is stunned to discover that Kmart workers are doing group exercises at the start of their shifts.
Zane Ammar, a Sydney man, was walking through the store when he noticed their 8am morning routine.
“You’ll never believe what I see,” he said.
“There are all these Kmart workers stretching out for a shift.”
He filmed himself approaching the staffers as they stood in a circle and craned their necks.
“Excuse me, sorry to interrupt training,” he said before asking where the sports equipment was.
“Not at all,” one employee replied. ‘Would you like to join us today?’
Mr. Ammar then began to participate in the group session.
Zane Ammar, a Sydney man, invited himself to a group warm-up at a popular retailer
“So, what, are you warming up for the service?” he asked.
“Yes, approximately,” the worker replied.
As the man continued to warm up, the staff member offered an encouraging compliment.
‘Aren’t you a lovely young man? Very handsome and all. Great personality,” she said.
She invited Mr Ammar to join them every day at 8am for the group sessions and they wished each other a good day.
Many social media users found the interaction heartwarming and said stretching was helpful to store workers’ routines.
“I laugh, but retail is an insanely physically demanding job. Stretching in the middle of the service is the best feeling in the world,” one person wrote.
‘I work in retail and this is very important for all the back, neck and arm muscles you encounter that day,’ agreed another.
Mr Ammar even received a series of compliments for his efforts during the group stretching session
Many retail workers said their employers required them to stretch daily to reduce the risk of injuries and absenteeism.
“Where I work, it’s mandatory to do stretching exercises before we start our shifts,” one person said.
“I work for another big Australian retailer and we do it too, so many people complain but I need those stretches,” joked another.
‘As a health and safety officer it’s good to see this!’ wrote a senior person.
The chosen location was found interesting for the warm-up before the service.
“(We have to) do this every 7 a.m. shift, but normally we do it in the back and not on the shop floor,” said a store employee.
“I work in construction, we do this and I often hope no one sees us,” one tradie joked.
Australian company Primal Physiotherapy advises employees to stretch and warm up before their shift to reduce injuries and minimize use-related pain.
“When we begin our work, it is important to warm up our body and muscles to get the blood flowing so we can move smoothly and reduce the risk of injury,” according to their website.
