“We can confirm that Kmart Stanhope Gardens will close on January 25, 2024, and we would like to thank the Stanhope Gardens community for their continued support over many years,” the spokesperson said.
The first announcement about the store closure was added in September.
“Supporting our team and our customers has remained our top priority throughout this process, and all team members who wished to be redeployed have been offered equal roles.”
Daily Mail Australia understands Big W plans to move into the property by the end of 2024. Priority will be given to former Kmart store staff and current Big W staff from surrounding stores, but there are expected to be 100 new positions open.
“This is a great opportunity to further expand our reach in a catchment area with a high proportion of new and young families, and a tangible step forward as we continue to invest in our team, our customers and our store network,” a spokesperson said.
Adding that recruitment for the store will begin in February.
Fans of the store seemed stunned by the announcement: “Wait, what,” one asked.
“I definitely don’t like that Kmart,” said another.
However, others told them to go to the store to find bargains as shares could be heavily discounted ahead of the move.
