An Australian woman looking for new pendant lampshades to give her kitchen an elegant upgrade saved hundreds of dollars by repurposing a bargain from Kmart.
The woman wanted lampshades with a rustic look, which are available from designer homeware brands for $299 to $599 each.
Instead, she bought three Rattan Look Potholders with Stands from Kmart for $22 each and $8 string lights from IKEA, giving her the same stylish effect for $90.
“I was looking for pendant lights for our new kitchen and couldn’t believe how much they cost at the big retailers,” she shared online.
‘I decided to convert this Kmart Rattan Look Potholder with Stand into pendant lampshades using a hanging kit from IKEA.

“I love them and they last forever,” added another.
The clever Australian added that although she made the pendant lights herself, she hired an electrician to install the lighting.
One woman shared that she also made a hanging light with a hanging cord, but she bought the lampshades at Kmart instead of using the pot holder.
This follows the launch of Kmart’s new homeware collection in August, which also included a $69 velvet floor mirror.
The popular item is said to be an imitation of a designer mirror that retails for up to $599. Fans can’t get enough of this elegant piece.
“It’s very cute and stylish, I love it,” someone said.
