Kmart Australia releases must-have $49 buy to keep you cool this summer – and it’s got EVERYONE talking
Kmart fans are obsessed with the new ‘must-have’ kitchen gadget for summer, but not everyone is talking about it for the right reasons.
The $49 sundae machine claims to make soft serve ice cream or gelato in just 30 minutes.
Customer Kimi Sanderswho describes himself as an ‘impatient little thing’, decided to test out the machine to see if it was worth the purchase.
She’s looked at ice cream makers before, but the idea of a “24-hour wait” kept her from purchasing each time.
‘This appealed to me. The box actually says: one-step operation, wonderful. Ice cream and sorbet in 30-40 minutes, perfection,” she said.
‘Removable housing for easy cleaning and a 700 ml capacity, what’s not to like?’
However, moments later she was disappointed with her gadget after realizing a big step when she read the instructions.
“Apparently you have to freeze the bowl for 30 minutes,” she complained.
Kimi Sanders, who describes herself as an ‘impatient little thing’, decided to take the Insta-worthy machine home
“I will freeze the bowl and cry, and we will meet again tomorrow,” she said.
She then made her ice cream mixture from sugar, cream and milk and put it in the refrigerator overnight.
However, she was not satisfied with the results.
“I thought this would be done in 30 minutes,” she said.
The next day she returned to the machine to try to recreate the dessert, less than 24 hours later.
She decided to start with 500 ml of the ice cream mixture because she couldn’t find a fill line in the frozen bowl.
But when she started pouring the mixture in, it came straight out of the nozzle.
“It’s been 40 minutes now and it doesn’t seem to be getting any thicker,” she said over the loud hum of the machine before leaving it on for another ten minutes.
Although Kimi doubted it was ‘soft consistency’, she decided to give it a try.
The machine worked as soon as she followed the instructions
“I bought a waffle cone for the occasion.”
“I should probably test it in a bowl, but I’m not going to,” she said.
The ice cream didn’t go as planned because liquid was left in the cone.
“I let it run for another 20 minutes or so and it got even worse,” she said.
She further concluded that the machine was not worth the money.
But after she was asked to try again, this time as instructed, she was thrilled with the results.
She noted that she used cream and froze the bowl for a second time for the full 24 hours.
‘Oh my God, it worked. It really worked,” she said excitedly. ‘Repayment.’
“This time it was literally a can of peaches in syrup that I mixed with double cream. That’s it! It was amazing,” she said.
But people seemed to be against the $49 machine.
“Looks like it’s going to be 10 minutes before it ends up in a landfill,” one man said.
“40 minutes of that noise would drive me crazy,” said another.
“I’d rather go to McDonald’s for five minutes for a soft serve.”
Others thanked her for saving them money.
‘I noticed this, thanks for posting a review! I’m going to look elsewhere,” one person said.
But some came around to criticize the critic.
“Weird how it worked if you followed the instructions,” said one man.
A handful of people were happy that it had worked.
“Oh, I’m going to grab one now,” one woman said.
‘Thanks, I’ll get it for my child now. You saved me so much time in the Maccas Drive Thru… and the headache of sorting it out,” one woman said.
