Netflix fans hail ’10/10′ sci-fi movie directed by a BAFTA-winning actor and praise legendary footballer’s surprise cameo

Netflix fans have hailed a sci-fi film directed by a BAFTA-winning actor as ’10/10′ and praised a surprise cameo from a football legend.

The Kitchen, which hit the streaming service earlier this month, was directed by Daniel Kaluuya and featured a brief appearance by Ian Wright.

Rapper and Top Boy actor Kano led the relatively unknown cast of the film, which debuted at the British Film Institute in October 2023.

Kano, 38, plays Izi who lives in a dystopian future with Benji (Jedaiah Bannerman) in London, where all social housing has been eliminated.

The friends fight to navigate the world as residents of the Kitchen, a community that refuses to leave their home.

‘I liked that The Kitchen on Netflix didn’t teach us the themes at a young age. A poetic allegory about gentrification and its effects on the community #TheKitchen.’

‘Just finished watching The Kitchen on Netflix. Slow moving but really a very powerful film. Kano and the boy who play the two leads are incredible in it, and it’s also a great first film from director Daniel Kaluuya.”

‘#TheKitchen was so good, it felt like a play on screen, it was short, tender and left you wanting more. The music accompaniment and sound design stood out.’

“#Thekitchen is completely remarkable. Kano is such a good method actor. He conveys emotions flawlessly without words. So proud of Daniel Kaluyuuya’s direction and a brilliant script. Support #blackfilms & #filmmakers.”

Fans also had a lot to say about Arsenal and England legend Ian Wright’s cameo.
