A man has been shot dead after allegedly threatening officers with a knife at a police station.
Queensland Police allege the man confronted officers at Kirwan police station in Townsville, North Queensland, after 10pm on Saturday night.
The man was shot before officers could provide first aid.
He was pronounced dead a short time later.
It is unclear how many times the man was shot.
A crime scene was established and parts of Thuringowa Drive were temporarily closed.
Ethical Standards Command is launching an investigation into the incident.
Police will release more details about the incident on Sunday.
