Is it acceptable for an elected representative in America to defend anti-Semites and denigrate black people in explicitly racist terms?
Don’t answer that. It’s rhetorical.
What if that officer is also a leader? A person who represents not only his constituents, but also his party.
It would be disturbing – dare I say – an outright, blatant and unacceptable outrage. No?
Tell that to the Democratic Party.
Because the new minority leader in the Democratic House, Hakeem Jeffries, has now been exposed for holding stunningly bigoted views and lying about supporting an anti-Semite, but nothing is happening!
Jeffries made American history this year as the first-ever black House Minority Leader and the first black congressional leader of a major party. It is a very remarkable achievement.
However, his rise to the top has not been without controversy.
Jeffries’ uncle is Leonard Jeffries, a professor of black studies, known as a virulent anti-Semite, with close ties to Louis Farrakhan, the notorious “black supremacist” and leader of the Nation of Islam sect.
In addition to expressing hatred for white and gay people, Farrakhan called Jews “rats” and “Satanic,” going so far as to praise Hitler.
The elder Jeffries is himself documented as blaming “wealthy Jews” for the African slave trade and Hollywood Jewish executives for poor representation of black Americans in entertainment.

Now, of course, no one should be punished just because he is related to someone with repulsive ideas. But the problem is that Jeffries defended his uncle and expressed abhorrent beliefs himself.
As Jeffries began his upward trajectory in Democratic politics, it was important for him to prove he was not a bigot.
After all, it is an indictment that is today the most severe indictment that can be imposed in the public square. Intolerance is a terminable crime.
When confronted with questions about his uncle, Jeffries claimed to have only a “faint recollection” of the controversy and to have absolutely nothing to do with his uncle’s statements.
The congressman told interviewers he was safely tucked away in college and shielded from the family drama — completely oblivious to what was happening to his uncle.
But that is not true.
Hakeem Jeffries, 21, a student at Binghamton University, was well aware of his uncle’s views and was so outraged by the media’s backlash against them that he wrote an essay about them for his college paper.
In these resurfaced writings, Jeffries calls the “white media’s” opposition to his uncle and Farrakhan a result of their challenges to the “existing white supremacist education system and longstanding distortion of history.”
He characterized the resistance as “high-tech lynchings.” And that’s not all.
When the Black Student Union at Binghamton University invited Leonard Jeffries to speak at the school, Hakeem, then a student union board member, was all for it!
An editorial by Jeffries not only defended his uncle’s right to speak (I’d love to hear him show such support for conservative campus speakers these days), but he also lashed out at esteemed Black Americans in a disturbing way.

In addition to expressing hatred for white and gay people, Farrakhan called Jews “rats” and “Satanic,” going so far as to praise Hitler.
He referred to black conservatives with racial slurs, calling them “House Negros” and “tokens.”
He accused Supreme Court justices Clarence Thomas, Colin Powell, and author Shelby Steele of being instruments of white supremacy.
These are outrageously insulting claims about black Americans who have managed to overcome great odds to become some of the most successful men in America, but these comments also point to a deep prejudice that completely contradicts the mission of an elected representative in the Congres. of the United States.
We are currently living in dangerous times. Political division turns into political violence.
We need cool heads in Congress, responsible leaders who can exemplify passionate discord without promoting hatred.
So as a black American and a conservative, I find this appalling.
At a time when the malignant poison of anti-Semitism is on the rise in the black community, it is incredibly irresponsible for Jeffries not to unequivocally denounce his uncle’s views once and for all.
Republican Senator Tim Scott, who to this day is accused of being a “crime-conservative” of “symbolism,” called these writings “incendiary and disgusting.”
Scott said they are indicative of the belief that “African Americans” [are] not being able to think for themselves.’
“What I hope we discover along the way is that we will stop demonizing people who are like us and who disagree with us,” he concluded.
And how did Jeffries’ office react? Has he denounced these earlier writings and affirmed that Black Americans have the right to free thought and expression?
Shockingly, he didn’t.
He responded insultingly.
Apparently Senator Tim Scott has nothing better to do than go back in time to debate 21-year-old college student Hakeem Jeffries. And this is someone who wants to be president?’ Jeffries director of communications wrote.
It has not been long since America drove out the Jim Crow political class in this country. It seems like a sad, bitter irony that the Jim Crow party (the Democratic Party) has now elected a leader who, at least once in his life, enthusiastically embraced Jim Crow language.
And today apparently refuses to apologize.
We can tell ourselves that Jeffries was a young man when he wrote those words, that he has definitely matured and changed since then. And that may be true.
But as the leader of one of the two major political parties in this country, he owes America an explanation.
Shouldn’t a party leader be held responsible for their public falsehoods in the service of their own selfish motives?
No one is naive enough to believe that our politicians are not lying, but when they get caught up in those lies, public accountability is essential.

In fact, “accountability” is a favorite term for progressive wonks.
When conservatives have complained about the vicious and arbitrary nature of cancel culture, leftist progressives have responded that there is no such thing as “cancel culture,” only “accountability culture.”
Progressives say losing a job or leaving the platform because of comments or political affiliations is simply accountability in action.
If that’s true, there doesn’t seem to be a better candidate for accountability right now than Hakeem Jeffries.
Remember Carson King?

In 2019, the young college student attended an Iowa Hawkeyes football game and became a media darling when he was caught by TV cameras holding a sign asking people to help supplement his beer money by donating to his Venmo account.
So many people responded that King decided to donate the money to a children’s hospital. Anheuser-Busch doubled its donation and added more funds.
King raised more than a million dollars for the hospital. Although a few days later he found himself ‘cancelled’.
A young reporter for the Des Moines Register digging through King’s social media discovered a problematic post King made when he was just 16 years old.
King lost his partnership with Anheuser-Busch and was castigated in the media. He apologized for the teens’ indiscretions, but still it wasn’t enough for the gangs.
King was much younger than Jeffries at the time of his ill-advised writing.
Democrats must hold Jeffries accountable for his past and force him to denounce his past comments. And if he can’t, he should be removed from his position.
Hakeem Jeffries owes this country responsibility or its unemployment.
