King Frederik and Queen Mary beam and laugh together during visit to Bornholm on first stop of their summer tour
King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark showed warm hearts as they made the first stop of their summer tour yesterday.
The royal couple, who have been plagued by rumours of marital problems over the past year, appeared in cheerful mood during their visit to Bornholm.
The couple were photographed tasting local produce and speaking to small business owners as they toured the tiny island, 105 miles southeast of Copenhagen.
During the engagement, Frederik and Mary were photographed laughing and smiling together. They later wrote on Instagram how Bornholm lived up to its nickname ‘sun island’.
Queen Mary, 52, looked effortlessly elegant in a white shirt, rust-coloured trousers and chunky trainers.

The mother of four styled her brunette hair in her signature brown waves and completed her understated outfit with minimal jewelry and tortoiseshell sunglasses.
Meanwhile, King Frederik, 56, looked dapper in a crisp blue shirt, brown trousers and boots.
Members of the Danish royal family have toured the country every summer on the royal yacht Dannebrog for 100 years.
This is the first time that Frederik and Mary have taken part in a summer tour as reigning monarchs, since the King ascended the throne in January.
Last year it was Frederik’s mother, Queen Margarethe, 84, who completed the boat trip.
In December 2023, Queen Margrethe shocked the country and many royal observers around the world when she announced on live television during her annual New Year’s address that she was abdicating as queen after 52 years.
This made Margrethe the first queen to abdicate the Danish throne in 900 years. It was speculated that the queen had taken this decision to keep her daughter-in-law, who is very popular with the public, at her side.
The announcement came just weeks after Frederik made headlines when he was photographed on a night out in Madrid with a Mexican high society star, sparking rumors of an alleged “affair.”

The former monarch signed her historic abdication papers with her son and grandson, Prince Christian, 18, in attendance at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen.
The Queen’s last words before leaving the Council of State were: ‘God save the King.’
The 23-year romance between Australian-born Mary and Frederik was often described as a ‘real fairytale’ after they met in a Sydney pub.
But photos have emerged of the monarch enjoying a night out last November with Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova, the billionaire’s former daughter-in-law and Duchess of Alba.
The couple were seen walking around Madrid before heading to her apartment building, where they changed and headed out for the evening.

The Danish palace refused to comment on rumours of an affair between Frederik and Genoveva, but the society woman strongly denied any suggestion of a romantic relationship.
The royal yacht Dannebrog has been the cruise ship of the Danish Royal Family since May 1932 and has now sailed over 800,000 miles.
The luxury yacht is used by the royal family during their private vacations and official foreign meetings.
The royal compartment of the yacht still contains furniture and fittings dating from 1879 that were also on board the family’s previous yacht.
After the royal couple visited Bornholm last night and held a reception on board the yacht, it will sail to the municipality of Ærø.
