The priceless gift King Frederik gave wife Mary on HIS 56th birthday – after rumoured marriage troubles

King Frederick has honored his wife, Queen Mary, with a rare and priceless gift on the morning of his 56th birthday – amid rumors their relationship is in trouble.

The king honored his Australian-born queen with the Grand Commander’s Cross of the Order of the Dane.

This honor has been awarded sparingly throughout history – with only seven title holders alive, including Queen Margrethe and Prince Joachim.

The Order of the Dannebrog honors the faithful servants of the modern Danish state for meritorious civil or military service, for a special contribution to the arts, sciences or business, or for working for Danish interests.

The order, once known as the ‘White Knights’, was initially limited to royal and noble men – before Christian the 8th broke tradition in 1840 by awarding it to his aunt Queen Marie Sophie Frederikke.

The royal couple looked at ease as they appeared together on the balcony of Amalienborg Castle to mark Frederick’s first anniversary as king.

Queen Mary stuns on the balcony in a pink puff-sleeved dress from numero ventuno (number 21). She wore her hair down and wore a simple gold watch, necklace and earrings for the occasion.

Her daughters Princess Isabella and Princess Josephine both wore hand-me-downs thanks to their very fashionable mother.

Princess Isabella wore Zimmermann’s $1,100 ‘Aliane’ Wrap Midi Dress.

While Princess Josephine opted for the Belted Burnout Viscose Linen Dress by Paul and Joe Paris.

Both princesses opted to keep their accessories light and their hair loose, mimicking their mother’s relaxed look.

Royal onlookers seemed happy to see the popular royal couple holding hands as they smiled at the crowd below.

They trembled with excitement as the Queen walked past her husband softly and in their once signature ‘tactile and carefree’ style.

“Happy birthday, nice to see the whole family on the balcony,” said one woman.

“They feel warm again,” said another.

The couple’s relationship has been under scrutiny since last November, when the then Crown Prince was pictured enjoying a night out in Madrid with socialite Genoveva Casanova.

Lecturas reported that during their night out, Prince Frederik and Mrs. Casanova visited a Pablo Picasso exhibition, walked through El Retiro Park and later went out for dinner.

Lecturas claimed around 7 p.m. that both Frederik and Genoveva went to her apartment building separately, and both emerged around 9 p.m., two hours later, after both changed their clothes to evening wear.

In the photos, Genoveva had swapped her chic camel coat with a tie belt for a white shirt, black wide-leg trousers and a black jacket worn on her shoulders.

Meanwhile, Frederik seemed to have changed from a navy blue jacket and brown trousers to a white shirt and dark trousers with a neat dark jacket. Again, they are said to have emerged from the building separately, but got into the same white car.

The magazine claimed the pair had seen a flamenco performance at a Spanish restaurant, El Corral de la Moreria, which ended at midnight.

It was also claimed that they remained seated at their table, which was flanked by two of the Danish prince’s bodyguards, while other customers left, waiters finished their shifts and the lights were switched off.

Lecturas claimed the pair didn’t leave the restaurant until 1 a.m., when they walked out onto the street and got into a car. As a ‘courteous gesture’, Lecturas reports that Prince Frederik opened the car door for his dinner companion.

The magazine claims that the next day the heir to the Danish throne was taken by car to the airport, where he flew to Denmark.
