King Frederik ‘deflected’ all questions about his 20th wedding anniversary during the couple’s tour of Norway – before Queen Mary left early: ‘He brought up the weather’
Queen Mary and King Frederik celebrated their twentieth wedding anniversary in Norway last week, but you wouldn’t have known it.
The couple worked through their platinum anniversary, with onlookers saying King Frederick either mentioned the weather or veered off topic when asked about the big day.
Just two days later, Queen Mary was seen heading to Oslo airport alone, while her husband remained on board the royal yacht and took time to sail home with his crew.
The couple’s only public nod to the wedding anniversary was an Instagram post showing them traveling to Norway.
They smiled for the camera in their matching puffer vests in the charming photo, but photos taken as they sailed into Norway appeared much more icy.

Speaking to Danish tabloid BT, communications expert Anna Thygesen said the couple likely ignored benign questions about their anniversary for fear it would lead to a more complicated conversation.
‘He doesn’t really want to talk about his wedding day at all. I don’t understand how they avoid this. And it seems very planned that they don’t want to talk about it,” she said.
‘I actually think it’s a result of the closure. Because if he answers this rather innocent question, he might also be forced to answer something that they don’t want to deal with – all the crises that there could be – and so they just shut down completely.”

The couple’s wedding anniversary has been overshadowed by speculation that their fairytale romance is over and their marriage is held together by their titles.
This comes after King Frederik was photographed on a night out last November with glamorous socialite Genoveva Casanova.
The friends were photographed in the city of Madrid and even went back to Genoveva’s apartment without an escort.
Genoveva has dismissed the rumors, saying the pair are just friends, while the Danish palace has simply said they do not comment on gossip.
But royal watchers and body language experts alike have speculated that the embarrassing scandal has had a huge impact on the popular couple.

Queen Mary went home alone to meet the High Commissioner for Refugees, Italian Filippo Grandi. This appointment, which was not in the couple’s public calendar, was confirmed by the palace on Instagram
Dr. Louise Mahler told FEMAIL that the King appeared to have ‘checked out’ of the marriage, while Scott Taylor said Queen Mary’s feet are all too often pointing towards the exit – indicating where she really wants to go.
Both experts said the pair have shown no signs of intimacy during recent appearances – with Taylor even going so far as to say ‘they don’t even seem to like each other’.
Queen Mary also returned home early from what has been dubbed the ‘working wedding anniversary tour’ to meet UN representatives.
The couple’s relationship has been in the spotlight since last November when King Frederick, then Crown Prince, was spotted on a night out with Genoveva Casanova.
King Frederick refused to recognize the couple’s anniversary during the visit to Oslo, commenting on the weather or addressing other questions
The meeting took place at the couple’s city residence, Amalienburg, between the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the Italian Filippo Grandi and the Queen.
This appointment, which was not in the couple’s public calendar, was confirmed by the palace on Instagram.
‘The Queen received the High Commissioner, who briefed Her Majesty on the UN’s challenging work to protect the lives and rights of refugees around the world, including on efforts to improve the conditions of women and girls in humanitarian crises improve,” the Instagram post said.
Relieved Danes responded to the post and said they were concerned when Queen Mary traveled home alone.
‘Thanks for this update as other accounts are wondering why she may have traveled back to Denmark alone and not by boat. I assumed it was because of Mary’s previous engagement. There are too many people jumping to conclusions and expressing their negative opinions,” one woman wrote.
Others questioned the legitimacy of the meeting.
‘Several people write that she flew home to become head of state. But there are seven of them, so I wonder if one of the others who were already there could arrange that.’
