King Frederik is animated as he cheers on Denmark in badminton men’s doubles – before it all ends in heartbreak
King Frederik X puts on a lively show during the men’s badminton semi-final on Friday.
The 56-year-old Danish monarch cheered for Danes Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, who played against Taiwan‘s Lee Yang and Wang Chi-Lin
at the Olympic Games in Paris.
The king cheered and twisted his face from the stands as he watched intently the exciting match at the Porte de la Chapelle Arena.
Frederik wore casual summer clothes and radiated in a white Olympic polo shirt and jeans.
Queen Mary, the King’s wife, is also in Paris for the Games, but she was not spotted at the badminton semi-final.

Unfortunately it was a tough match for Denmark, where they won the first set but lost the next two sets to Liang and Wang from Taiwan.
Yesterday, Queen Mary watched as Australia’s 4x200m freestyle relay team won the gold medal at the Olympic Games.
The Dolphins team of Mollie O’Callaghan, Lani Pallister, Brianna Throssell and Ariarne Titmus saluted in seven minutes and 40.33 seconds.
Mary, a Tasmanian-born royal, is a distant relative of Ariarne Titmus and was there to watch the race, celebrating with them as they came to the stands to hug friends and family.
Shortly before the Games began, Titmus revealed: ‘We are actually cousins, but in an indirect way.’
‘One of Dad’s cousins is married to Mary’s cousin, which is actually quite funny as there’s a running joke that everyone born in Tasmania is related in some way!’
Mary gave O’Callaghan a warm hug and took pictures of the gold medal winners. Australian swimming legend Cate Campbell noted on the Channel Nine broadcast that the usual royal protocols of bowing and shaking hands were forgotten in the excitement.
Queen Mary and King Frederik are presenting a united front at the 2024 Games after a difficult year marked by rumours of an ‘affair’.

Last week, the two attended in high spirits the opening of the Danish pavilion in the Maison du Danemark on the Champs-Elysees, which will be open during the Games this summer.
Mary looked radiant and effortlessly elegant in a red ensemble, as she and her equally happy husband Frederik cut the ribbon at the official opening of the Danish pavilion.
Later, she and Frederik welcomed Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach in an atmospheric setting in front of the Louvre and the tournament’s famous rings.
Mary wore a white jacket and the colours of her country, clearly showing her support for the team.
Last week, the couple returned to the games and attended the torch relay in the French capital. Mary dressed chicly in a white dress and red jacket for the outing.

This came after the royal couple were spotted on a relaxing beach holiday in Sardinia earlier this month.
But instead of continuing their much-needed rest on the Italian island, the duo traveled to Paris later this week to attend their beloved Olympic Games.
This year, Frederik and Mary’s wedding has been plagued by rumours after the king was photographed with Mexican society star Genoveva Casanova in Madrid last year.
Photos show the couple going to a traditional flamenco restaurant in the Spanish capital, where Genoveva lives, where they dined together until the early hours, according to Spanish magazine Lecturas.
After the photos were published, rumors circulated about an affair between the two.
Last week, the couple appeared in high spirits as they attended the opening of the Danish pavilion at the Maison du Danemark on the Champs-Elysees, which will be open throughout the summer of the Games.

This ultimately led to Genoveva, 47, issuing a statement denying any romantic relationship between her and the royal family and condemning the “malicious” rumors.
However, cracks began to appear in the relationship between Queen Mary and King Frederick after a night out with the society figure.
The couple, who have been married for 20 years, began displaying a cool body language attitude in public, especially during a ski vacation in March.
Mary then appeared to further fuel the rumor mill by performing a series of solo performances without her husband present.
Lately, the couple seems to be on a happy note again and have long been beloved by royal fans for the loving expressions they give to each other.
