A whirlwind journey! King Felipe of Spain flies back to Spain to take his daughter Infanta Sofia, 16, to football hours after attending coronation in London

King Felipe of Spain was in a hurry to get home after yesterday’s coronation so he could take his daughter to football.

The 55-year-old king and 16-year-old Infanta Sofia watched the Copa del Rey final between Real Madrid and CA Osasuna at Seville’s La Cartuja stadium yesterday.

Just hours earlier, he had celebrated the coronation of his distant relative King Charles III at Westminster Abbey with an ever-stylish Queen Letizia, 50.

Standing in the stands for the Spanish national anthem, Felipe looked the part in a navy blue suit with a white shirt and blue patterned tie. Meanwhile, Princess Sofia, 16, went for a more casual look, sporting a cropped green patterned blouse and white skinny jeans.

The King then handed Real Madrid the cup after they triumphed in a 2-1 victory over the Pamplona club.

The match kicked off at 8pm, meaning the King quickly traveled back to Spain after his fleeting visit to London, where he watched Charles and Camilla be crowned King and Queen at Westminster Abbey.

The king smiled as he handed Real Madrid captain, French-born Karim Benzema, the Copa del Rey trophy and patted him on the back.

Sofia, who followed in her elegant mother’s footsteps in her chic outfit, beamed as she shook hands with players before the trophy presentation.

He attended the coronation yesterday with his glamorous wife, Queen Letizia of Spain, 50, who sparkled in a gorgeous pink pencil skirt and ruffled peplum top, which had an embroidered neckline and center buttons.

The king looked equally sophisticated in a formal suit, with a pair of gloves to hand.

Felipe is a distant cousin of Charles: his mother, Queen Sofia, was a third cousin of the Queen and a first cousin once removed of the Duke of Edinburgh.

The Mall was packed for the coronation, as tens of thousands had camped for days to watch the extraordinary event unfold.

More than 100 million people watched the first coronation in 70 years on their televisions around the world.

It’s been a particularly busy week for the Spanish royal family – with King Felipe and Queen Letizia hosting Colombian President Gustavo Petro and his wife Verónica Alcocer in Madrid.

The Spanish royals were also among the many foreign royalty who mingled with VIP guests at the dazzling pre-colonial reception at Buckingham Palace, the eve before Charles and Camilla were crowned.

The reception was organized as an opportunity for the king to greet his guests, as there was no formal event yesterday outside of the coronation itself.
