King Charles III cancer diagnosis LIVE: Updates as Buckingham Palace announces monarch’s cancer battle and reveals King will begin treatment immediately

Harry’s return ‘indicates the seriousness’ of the diagnosis

Sarah Hewson, editor-in-chief of Talk TV, says Prince Harry’s return to Britain is “an indication of the seriousness” of King Charles’ cancer diagnosis.

“I’m sure that since his father first went to the hospital, and since it was first announced that his father was going to the hospital for prostate treatment and that his sister-in-law was in the hospital, I’m sure that Prince Harry has never felt more distant.”

Palace releases image of King after announcement

The palace released this image of the monarch, which Charles showed during the state tour of France in September 2023.

Cancer diagnosis week after hospital discharge

The cancer diagnosis announcement comes just a week after Charles appeared in good spirits as he waved to the crowd as he was released from the London Clinic after undergoing treatment for an enlarged prostate.

The royal’s son Prince Harry will fly from America to be by his father’s side as he begins his battle against cancer.

Chief Rabbi ‘saddened’ by King’s diagnosis

Messages are pouring in wishing Charles well

X, formerly Twitter, has been inundated with well wishes from the likes of former Prime Ministers Boris Johnson and Liz Truss, as well as Labor leader Sir Keir Starmer.

‘Terrible shock for Queen Camilla’

Former BBC correspondent Jennie Bond has spoken to Sky News about the king’s cancer battle.

She said it would have been a “terrible shock” for Queen Camilla.

A terrible shock for him and I think an even bigger shock for Camilla. I feel sorry for Camilla because he is her rock and vice versa, and all the time he spent in the hospital when she was there never showed for even five minutes how much they love each other and feel a little lost without each other.

The Mail’s Sarah Vine sent her best wishes to the King, saying: ‘This comes as an unwanted shock not only to the nation, which is still deeply in mourning following the death of his mother, but also to the Royal family yourself’.

Prince Harry will travel to Britain ‘in the coming days’

The Duke of Sussex has spoken to his father about his cancer diagnosis and will travel to Britain in the coming days, a source close to Harry said.

The monarch was last photographed at Sandringham yesterday before the shock announcement this evening.

He appeared in good spirits ahead of the church service at Sandringham Estate Chapel, following a short hospital stay last week for treatment for an enlarged prostate.

To confirm, King Charles does not have prostate cancer and the palace said it will not reveal what type of cancer the monarch has.
