King Charles honours his royal doctors for personal service in New Year’s Honours following his battle with cancer

The king personally honored his medical team after his battle with cancer this year.

Charles has recognized his GP, Dr Douglas Glass, and his physician, Professor Richard Leach, for their personal services to the monarch and the royal family.

It comes after His Majesty and the Princess of Wales were both diagnosed with cancer this year.

Dr. Glass, the king’s pharmacist, has been appointed Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (RVO).

He previously served as Queen Elizabeth’s pharmacist and was the medical professional present at Balmoral when she died.

Professor Leach has now been appointed lieutenant of the RVO.

He is a consultant physician at the private King Edward VII’s Hospital in central London, where members of the royal family have been treated for decades.

Awards under the RVO are a gift from the King and are presented independently of Downing Street to people who have served the monarch or the royal family in a personal capacity.

Others receiving the royal gong include Commander Robert Dixon, known as the ‘hot equerry’.

He has served as equerry to the Prince and Princess of Wales, where he was known as William’s ‘right-hand man’, but will return to the Royal Navy.

The late Queen Elizabeth’s lady-in-waiting, Dame Annabel Whitehead, is appointed Dame Grand Cross of the RVO.

Queen Camilla also appears to have had a hand in awarding several royal honors.

Her Queen’s Companion, Sarah Troughton, the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, is appointed Dame Commander. She acts as a modern lady-in-waiting.

The Queen’s country dresser, Shona Williams, will become a member of the RVO, as will her couturier, Roy Allen. Meanwhile, Camilla’s vet, Roderick Benson, is appointed lieutenant of the RVO.
