King Charles encouraged Prince William to spend more time with his wife and children as he has ‘years and years of royal duties ahead’, royal expert claims

The King has encouraged Prince William to spend more time with his wife and young children – as he has ‘years and years of royal duties’ ahead of him, a royal expert has said.

Speak with HELLO!explained author Ingrid Seward, who has just written a book about the monarch’s upbringing – called My Mother and I – explaining that Charles, 75, has likely urged his heir, 42, to focus on his duties as a father while he still has the chance to.

‘Charles always put his duty first, because so did his mother. And that’s what Diana decided she wasn’t going to do,” she told the outlet.

“I think Charles encouraged William to spend more time with the family and also said to William, ‘I don’t want you to take on royal duties until it is absolutely necessary,’ because you remember that we William, the work-shy, criticized? ‘

Ingrid added that Charles said this way: ‘You don’t have to do this, be with your young family. Enjoy it while you can. You have years and years and years of royal duties to fulfill.”

In the past, royal experts have claimed that Charles was “closer to the Queen Mother” as a young boy because his largely absent monarch mother was not a “comforting” figure during an apparently “miserable childhood.”

Speaking to the ITV documentary Charles: Our King in 2022, royal author Catherine Mayer said: ‘He grew up in an isolated world, I called it ‘Planet Windsor’.

‘It works according to a slightly different set of rules than planet Earth. It looks and sounds like ours, but it is very lonely.

‘He was very young when his mother became queen and the bond he had with his mother was never as strong as it could have been because she had many duties.’

At the time, the children lived on the top floor of Buckingham Palace, where there was a nursery wing and the Queen would visit her children.

Meanwhile, the late Diana, Princess of Wales, is also praised for her practical nature as a mother.

‘I live for my sons. Without them I would be lost,” she once said.

In November 1985, Diana had also commented: ‘The most important thing is that I am a mother and a wife. That’s what I’m trying to achieve; Whether I do that is another matter, but I’ll try.’

In the summer, William appeared to channel his mother’s nurturing nature when he attended the Wales-Argentina match with son George.

He was dressed like a mini-me of William, both wearing matching navy blue suits and red ties – the latter seemingly a patriotic nod to the Welsh side.

The father and son duo then met up with some Welsh rugby players to mourn their loss.

Trooping the Color has produced a series of echoes over the years, with William’s body language often seeming to be reminiscent of that of his late mother.

Whether in the public eye or in private, Princess Diana was often pictured holding Prince Harry when Prince William was still young.

And while William may not hug his children in public as often as the late Princess of Wales, he will never miss the opportunity to comfort his children.

The love between Diana and her sons was evident in photographs, as seen in a snapshot of the late Princess of Wales and William at a polo match in May 1987.

Meanwhile, William looked ready for his royal duties last night as he arrived at the BAFTAs in London.

The Prince of Wales arrived solo for the awards ceremony, where he apologized for the Princess of Wales’ absence as she continues to recover at their family home following her abdominal surgery.

“I haven’t seen Barbie yet,” the prince admitted, as excited fans told him: “You have to see it.”

Tonight’s ceremony marks the first high-profile royal engagement Prince William has undertaken since his wife’s major surgery and his father’s diagnosis.

Earlier this month he gave a speech at a charity event in London to raise money for London’s Air Ambulance Charity’s new helicopter fleet earlier this month.

It was thought he would skip the ceremony, which usually sees him appear arm-in-arm with Kate, but the prince was keen to continue with his duties and represent the royal family at the prestigious event.
