Royal fans are overjoyed after a video emerged of young King Charles showing off his dance moves in Rio de Janeiro.

The then Prince of Wales, who would have been about 29 at the time, was filmed in Brazil in 1978 taking on a samba dancer.

The royal was invited to the party, which was then hosted by the city’s mayor at the town hall, a year before he met Princess Diana, whom he would marry and have two children with: Prince William and Prince Harry.

He caused a stir at the time when he twirled energetically and showed off his skills together with a famous dancer, Pina de Beija-Flora.

Charles, now 75, wasn’t exactly dressed for the occasion, but that didn’t stop him from joining in the fun.

He looked handsome in a tuxedo, with a crisp white shirt, black bow tie, smart trousers and very polished shoes, while Pina was dressed in an outfit that certainly turned heads.

She wore a glittering white and silver headdress and a tiny dress with large cutouts that showed off her slim frame and muscular shoulders.

Photos emerged of the couple with their arms around each other’s shoulders as they danced the evening away.

In 2009, he visited Rio again with his second wife, Queen Camilla, then the Duchess of Cornwall, and was more restrained than on his previous trip.

During a speech, Charles referred to his evening in 1978, telling the audience, according to the Daily Mail: ‘I can remember on that first visit dancing a somewhat rudimentary version of the samba with a rather dramatically half-naked lady here in Rio.

‘Thirty years later and prior to this visit, the lady in question has contacted me to propose a slightly more subdued reprise of the Samba. Do I accept the challenge?’

Pina had hung up her glittering headpieces and bold, flashy costumes years before his second visit to the church.

However, the newspaper reported at the time that she hoped to attend one of the prince’s performances in Brazil to give him another dance lesson.
