King Charles is seen for the first time since double royal health scare as he leaves Birkhall with Camilla before his prostate procedure next week – while Kate spends fourth day in hospital

King Charles III and Queen Camilla were photographed this morning as they were driven around Aberdeen ahead of the monarch’s visit to hospital next week.

The king, who has been at his private home Birkhall in Aberdeenshire, is preparing for a corrective procedure after being diagnosed with a benign enlarged prostate.

Buckingham Palace announced the news on Wednesday, in an unprecedented double royal health crisis, just 90 minutes after Kensington Palace revealed the Princess of Wales had undergone abdominal surgery and would spend two weeks in hospital.

The 75-year-old monarch, who came to the throne 16 months ago and was crowned in Westminster Abbey last May, will be hospitalized next week.

Yesterday Camilla said he was ‘doing well’ and ‘looking forward to getting back to work’.

She was on a solo visit to the Aberdeen Art Gallery to open the new Safe Space, an initiative to provide help and guidance to people if they suspect someone is experiencing domestic abuse.

When Camilla was asked about the King by the Lord Provost, she replied: ‘He is doing well, thank you very much. I’m looking forward to getting back to work.’

Camilla appeared cheerful and adopted the keep-calm-and-carry-on attitude often associated with the late queen.
