Poundbury, near Dorchester, was built according to the architectural principles of King Charles, which he advocated in his book A Vision of Britain: A Personal View of Architecture.
Poundbury reflects the four main principles of the monarch’s vision of architecture: to create beauty and reflect local character and identity, affordable housing, a mix of public facilities, shops and other businesses, as well as an open community area in a space that is walkable and prioritizes people over cars.
Currently, about 3,800 people live in the city.
The King often visits Poundbury and opened a new children’s playground there in May 2022.
