Kim Kardashian’s Met Gala moments! A look back at every outfit the star has worn on the red carpet – as fashion’s biggest night approaches

Kim Kardashian has made some striking fashion statements over the years at the annual Met Gala in New York City.

During her first year (2013) at the glittering, star-studded event, she wore a tight floral print dress that showed off her very pregnant belly as she posed with Kanye West.

She would later be seen in a gold column dress, a silver suit that made her look like a robot, a sheer lace wonder, and a dress so tight she had to wear a waist trainer for weeks in advance.

In 2021, she shockingly covered her face with a black cloth while sharing that she had a full face of makeup underneath for some reason.

In 2022, the siren slipped into Marilyn Monroe’s old Happy Birthday Mr President dress when she was spotted with then-boyfriend Pete Davidson.

The Met Gala returns May 6 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City with co-chairs Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, Chris Hemsworth and Bad Bunny.

The Costume Institute’s 2024 exhibition, entitled Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, will feature approximately 250 items from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection.

2013 – GIVENCHY

Her first time at the Met Gala was for PUNK: Chaos to Couture in 2013. She was pregnant with North and wore a floral print dress from Givenchy.

The California native said she wasn’t invited, but rather was Kanye West’s plus one.

Unfortunately, she “cried” after the gala because she was so unsure about everything, she says.

‘2013 Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy. I was Kanye’s plus one and so nervous! I didn’t know anyone and I’m sure no one wanted me there lol. I made my own lipstick and the color is so different. I went home and cried with uncertainty, but this is now one of my favorite looks,” the TV vet said.

2014 – LANVIN

In 2014, Kim wore a blue strapless Lanvin outfit like Kanye had on black.

The theme was Charles James: Beyond Fashion.

Kris Jenner’s daughter said it was the first time she had been invited on her own.

“My dress was originally made of this amazing leather with metallic details,” Kim previously said. “But we decided at the last minute to redo it in blue satin.”

2015 – ROBERTO CAVALLI

She wore a very sheer and sexy lace and net dress Roberto Cavalli for the May 2015 event.

Her jet black hair was slicked back and she wore huge diamond earrings.

And the star posed with rapper husband West, who wore a black suit and boots.

The theme was Celebrating China: Through the Looking Glass.

2016 – BALMAIN

Kardashian tried out silver at the 2016 Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology.

She wore Balmain, a shiny silver dress that looked like a futuristic dress with a side slit. West was in the same designer.

She said: ‘2016 Olivier Rousteing for Balmain. This year I was insecure again because I hadn’t lost all my baby weight.

‘A big mistake when bleaching the eyebrows, but Kanye looked so good with those blue eyes this year! It was super controversial that he wore denim.”

She had previously commented: “I thought Balmain was the perfect choice for me and especially Kanye. I think Kanye’s look is a bit more downplayed, with the denim mixed with all the Balmain bling.”

2017 – VIVIENNE WESTWOOD

In 2017 the theme was Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garcons: Art of the Between.

The egotistical author wore white Vivienne Westwood off-the-shoulder dress without jewelry and strappy heels.

During the bus ride to the event, she had to stand up so the dress didn’t wrinkle and she said she was already sweating and had to go to the bathroom because she was so nervous.

Paris Hilton’s friend said: ‘Vivienne Westwood 2017.

‘This was my first year going solo. I was so nervous about going alone that I almost threw up on the way and had to pee every second.

“I was FaceTiming my sisters to meet at the top of the stairs. Vivienne made me this beautiful dress from her archives.’

2018 – VERSACE

Kim attended the Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination Costume Institute Gala alone in 2018.

She said this gold mesh Versace dress fit her like a glove.

Kardashian added, “I knew exactly what I wanted and felt the most confident this year. ’90s, chainmail, sexy and simple.’

She looked sensational with her hair partially up and a long curl down her chest. She added a diamond cross necklace to match the cross on her dress.

2019 – THIERRY MUGLER

Kardashian sported a wet look for Camp: Notes on Fashion in 2019.

She had to wear a waist trainer to make her stomach as small as possible to do this Thierry Mugler dress.

The look had to be ‘wet’ so she had crystals that looked like raindrops coming off her.

Her hair also looked wet as she had oiled skin with glittery eyeshadow and a glossy lip.

2021 – BALENCIAGA

Kim shocked fans when she wore a head-to-toe black look that covered her famous face in 2021.

Later, the red carpet said she was in full makeup under that face sock, which seemed like a lot of effort without results.

Turns out it wasn’t her favorite move.

‘I fought it. I thought, I don’t know how I could wear the mask. Why would I want to cover my face?’ she told Vogue.

‘But Demna [Gvasalia, Balenciaga’s creative director] and the team said, “This is a fancy dress gala. This isn’t a Vanity Fair party where everyone looks pretty. There’s a theme and you have to wear the mask. That’s the look.”

2022 – JEAN LOUIS

Kim stunned fans when she wore an iconic Marilyn Monroe dress – the same one the movie star wore in 1962 when she wished President John F. Kennedy a happy birthday at Madison Square Garden.

The star lost 16 pounds. within three weeks to fit into the dress she borrowed from Ripley’s.

Her blonde hair was combed back and she was wearing a white fur jacket.

And there was one more accessory: her then-boyfriend, SNL star Pete Davidson.

“To me it was like, ‘OK, Christian Bale can do it for a movie role and that’s acceptable,’” she later explained to The New York Times. ‘Even Renée Zellweger has arrived for a role. It’s all the same to me.’
