Kim Kardashian reveals how her parents’ divorce helped her navigate her own split from Kanye West as she admits: ‘It’s OK to be vulnerable but never say anything negative’
Kim Kardashian has revealed how her parents’ divorce helped her cope with her divorce from ex-husband Kanye West.
The reality star, 43, who filed for divorce from the rapper, 46, with whom she shares four children, in 2021, said it was okay to be “vulnerable” without having to say anything negative about her ex-partner.
Her parents Kris and Robert Kardashian were married for 13 years and shared children Kim, Kourtney, 44, Khloe, 39, and Robert Jr, 36, before splitting in 1991.
Adorning the cover of GQ’s 28th annual Men of the Year She then recalled how her parents made her and her siblings feel “loved and heard” during the painful breakup, something she tried to do with her own children.
Telling the publication: ‘I didn’t foresee it (her parents’ divorce), I was in the bath and they called a family meeting.’

“I remember thinking, ‘Please, Lord, don’t let them divorce.’ I never suspected this would happen, but I knew they would tell us. I felt it.’
Discussing how this affected her own marital breakdown, she continued, “I did think about how my parents handled it with us.”
‘I just remember them being open… Ultimately, it’s about children feeling loved and heard. You want to be sensitive because they’re just kids, and it’s hard to go through it no matter what age they are.”
Adding: ‘You have to make sure you only go to a level that they can understand. It’s okay to show your vulnerable side. You never go to the negative side.”
Kanye and Kim started dating in 2012. The couple married in 2014 and share four children together: daughters North, 10, and Chicago, five, and sons Psalm, four, and Saint, seven.
Kim filed for divorce from the rapper in 2021, citing irreconcilable differences and initially agreeing to joint custody before a breakdown in 2022 that saw the former couple fall out over their children.
Not only did she turn to a child psychologist for help and advice on parenting, but she also enjoyed publishing how she relies on her Christian faith to cope with difficult times.
Saying how she and her children pray every night before admitting, “I’m probably more religious than most people think.”

She also touched on her own father’s work ethic, something she has passed on to her descendants.
Kim recalled, “My dad made me sign a contract for everything. When I got a car I had to have it washed once a week, make sure it had enough gas in it and that I didn’t run it into the ground. It was a gift he gave me when I was 16, but I had responsibilities.”
And now North can be found most weekends with her own lemonade stand at the end of their street, trying to make some extra money.
‘She takes a huge jug and fills it, puts it in her cart and goes to the corner. She has a table and chairs and fans to keep herself cool. She makes plates’.
‘She stays there for hours and hours. Her friends help, so she shares the money with them. If a random person stops, she only charges them $2. If she knows you, she will totally scam you.”
Adding, “I’m getting calls from my friends saying she charged them $20 for a lemonade. She takes their $20 and says, “I don’t have any change.”
