Kim Jong Un ‘bans North Koreans from eating hotdogs and imprisons couples for divorcing’ in bizarre new crackdown
Kim Jong Un has reportedly banned North Koreans from eating hot dogs and imposed jail terms for divorcing couples in a bizarre new crackdown.
The 40-year-old despot claims the popular fast food dish is too Western and says serving the food will now be considered an act of treason.
Anyone in the hermit state caught selling hot dogs on the street or cooking an American sausage dish in their home risks being sent to labor camps.
Speak with The sunsaid a seller in the northern province of Ryanggang: “The sale of budae-jjigae in the market has stopped.”
Budae-jjigae is a spicy Korean-American fusion dish made from broth, Korean hot pepper paste, kimchi, American spam, beans and sausage.
The dish was imported from prosperous, pro-Western South Korea in 2017.
The seller also confirmed to the newspaper that North Korean police and market management have said anyone caught selling the savory meal will be shut down.
This bizarre move is part of the regime’s ongoing efforts to suppress the infiltration of what it considers the country’s decadent capitalist culture.

Jong Un has also ordered that divorcing couples be sent to a labor camp to pay the ultimate price for their “crimes.”
As part of the new ‘crackdown’, the tyrant leader wants both parties to serve a maximum of six months because breaking up the marriage is considered ‘anti-socialist’.
According to reports, women could face longer sentences.
This means a tightening of existing laws, which previously only punished the party who filed for divorce – even in cases of physical abuse.
Under the new rules, both spouses will face jail time once the divorce is finalized, Radio Free Asia (RFA) reports.
A resident of the northern province of Ryanggang said: “I went to the People’s Court of Kimjongsuk County… where twelve people received divorce decrees.
“Immediately after the verdict, they were transferred to the province’s labor training camp.
The despot has also ordered divorcing couples to be sent to labor camps to atone for their “crimes.”

“Until last year, when a couple divorced, only the person who first filed for divorce was sent to a labor training camp.”
However, according to the resident, from this month all divorced couples will be sent to labor training camps.
RFA reported that divorce rates had risen due to Covid-19, as lockdown restrictions set back couples financially.
It is not said that the divorce rate has fallen significantly, even though citizens are now threatened with public humiliation and expulsion from the Korean Workers’ Party.
Jong Un has ruled North Korea with an iron fist since 2011 and has introduced a series of bizarre laws during that time.
But growing concerns about his health have raised questions about who his heir will be.
The Supreme Leader was seen on New Year’s Day with his daughter, Kim Ju Ae, in what is believed to be the latest sign that he has chosen her as his successor.

The young girl, believed to be 12 years old, has been described by North Korean state media as a “great leadership person” – a term usually reserved exclusively for top leaders and their successors.
Ju Ae, the daughter of Kim and First Lady Ri Sol Ju, was hidden from foreign media during her childhood until American former basketball player Dennis Rodman revealed her existence after a visit to North Korea in 2013.
But little was known about Ju Ae, believed to be the middle child of three, until she made her first public appearance at the time of a rocket launch in November 2022.
