A Texas yoga teacher accused of killing her ex-pro cyclist boyfriend tried to escape from prison during a medical appointment, officials said.
Kaitlin Armstrong, 35, allegedly ran from two corrections officers after meeting with a doctor in Austin as they put her back in the car to take her back to jail, the Travis County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.
However, Armstrong, who spent 43 days on the run before her arrest last year, only managed to stay on the run for about 10 minutes before deputies caught up with her.
Officers said she ran more than a block into a neighborhood, but remained in their sights the entire time. The amateur yoga teacher was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center after the escape attempt.
It is not clear whether Armstrong was wearing handcuffs on her arms or legs, or what medical treatment prompted the encounter outside the prison clinic. Corrections officers did not draw their firearms, but more details about how she was captured will not be released, a spokesman said.

The former yoga teacher reportedly killed Wilson on May 11, 2022 with two bullet holes in the head and another in the chest after discovering her boyfriend Colin Strickland was having an affair.
Armstrong has pleaded not guilty to murdering Wilson in May 2022 and her trial is scheduled to begin on October 30. She is currently being held in the Travis County Jail on a $3.5 million bond. She faces up to 99 years in prison if convicted.
She is accused of shooting Wilson, a 25-year-old gravel and mountain bike racer from Vermont, was in Austin for a race she was among the favorites to win when she was found shot to death. Armstrong allegedly flew into a jealous rage after discovering pro-cyclist Wilson, 25, was seeing her boyfriend, Colin Strickland, 35.
Armstrong fled Texas shortly after police interviewed her after the murder, traveling to Costa Rica from Newark Airport in New Jersey before she was arrested at a Costa Rican hotel more than a month later.
Authorities said at the time she paid for a nose job and dyed her hair brown after leaving the US, using her sisters’ passports to fly out of the US. Armstrong also used several aliases while on the run, using the name ‘Gold’ to seduce a man he met at a tattoo shop while on the run.
A federal judge has dismissed the fugitive charge against Armstrong, but she could face the charge again in the future if prosecutors deem it necessary.
Police arrested him after an anonymous tip and surveillance footage outside Wilson’s apartment allegedly showed the yoga instructor’s car.
Armstrong was captured in Costa Rica where she had dyed her hair and changed her appearance after 43 days on the run.

Detectives used an open misdemeanor warrant for theft of services to question her about Wilsons death after receiving an anonymous tip that she had been angry months earlier.
Armstrong’s car, a black Jeep Grand Cherokee, was seen driving past Wilson’s guest house, where the dirt bike champion had been staying.
Police later discovered that Wilson had gone to dinner with Armstrong’s boyfriend the night of the murder. Strickland told police they both swam in Deep Eddy Pool before eating, and he left her at 8:36 p.m.
He stopped briefly to text Armstrong that he was visiting a friend and that his phone was out of battery. Armstrong was allegedly tracking Wilson using the app for cyclists and runners, Strava.
Search warrants revealed that Armstrong visited a gun range with her sister before the murder and was given $450,000 by Strickland, who also admitted to purchasing two firearms between late 2021 and early 2022 for himself and Armstrong.
Strickland reportedly asked Armstrong to return the money he loaned her for an investment account, but she kept it before leaving for Costa Rica on May 18.
He admitted the relationship with Wilson to police, telling them he had changed her name on his phone so Armstrong didn’t know who he was talking to.
Strickland added that he had also deleted the previous messages, so his girlfriend was unable to find them, despite her suspicions.
