Rapper Killer Mike claims his citizen’s arrest at the Grammys was due to an overzealous security guard who tried to prevent him from entering the ceremony.
The 48-year-old musician and activist, whose real name is Michael Render, was taken from the Grammys in handcuffs after a ‘physical altercation’ after winning three prizes.
TMZ reported Sunday evening that Killer Mike had been charged with battery. A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department told DailyMail.com that a man was being questioned but they could not confirm his identity.
The rapper, who is perhaps best known for his work in the duo Run the Jewels and who won the trophies on Sunday for his solo record Michael, said the incident was all based on a misunderstanding.
“As you can imagine, there was a lot going on and some confusion about which door my team and I should enter,” Render said. TMZ Monday.
“We dealt with an overzealous security guard, but my team and I are confident that I will ultimately be cleared of any wrongdoing.”

The site claims that Killer Mike had a hard time with the security guard as he and his entourage tried to enter or re-enter the ceremony, where he had already won three awards.
He then tried to blow all the way past the security guard before being chased, in a citizen’s arrest that was caught on camera.

Mikael suffers from kidney disease and has been waiting for a transplant for three years.
Video from Sunday’s Grammys obtained by TMZ showed the rapper appearing to get into an altercation with security guards while walking outside in the rain – while someone carried an umbrella over his head.
In the footage, it appears that the rapper is trying to get past the security team, and security appears to be blocking him. There appeared to be a heated dispute, and the rapper pushed a security guard on the shoulder while trying to walk around him.

Moments later, the rapper is seen handcuffed.
As the rapper, born Michael Santiago Render, was brought back into the arena for questioning, someone shouted, “Free Mike!”
The rapper has not yet responded to the arrest.
Killer Mike is known for his political activism. He was an outspoken supporter of Bernie Sanders and endorsed Democratic Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock for his home state of Georgia.
Before he was handcuffed, the Atlanta-born star reminisced backstage about his path to Grammy stardom.
“The only thing that limits your age is not being honest about your age or what you do,” he told the assembled media.
‘When I was twenty, I thought it was cool to be a drug dealer.
‘When I was forty, I started living with the regrets and the things I did.
‘I started rapping about it when I was 45.
‘At the age of 48, I stand here as a man full of empathy and sympathy for the things I have done.’
