Kieran Trippier has retired from international football after a successful career for England.
The Newcastle right-back has decided to call time on his England spell after helping the national side reach the final of Euro 2024 earlier this summer.
The 33-year-old has made 54 appearances for England and played a key role during Gareth Southgate’s successful tenure as head coach.
Trippier scored a famous goal in the 2018 World Cup semi-final defeat to Croatia, curling in a superb free-kick to put England ahead.
Southgate described Trippier as his ‘warrior’ during his reign. But Trippier has now decided to walk away from the Three Lions, before interim boss Lee Carsley names his team later this afternoon.

He was an unused substitute when England lost the 2024 European Championship final to Spain last month
His announcement comes on the same day that interim manager Lee Carsley will name his first team
Trippier’s retirement leaves Carsley in a major dilemma at left-back with his first choice Luke Shaw currently injured.
Ben Chilwell has also not played this season after being banished to Chelsea’s ‘super team’ by Enzo Maresca.
The position has been a problem for Gareth Southgate throughout Euro 2024 after Shaw suffered a setback that saw him return to action in the quarter-finals.
Trippier replaced him as a makeshift left-back and started each of England’s first six games before Shaw took his place for the final.
