Kieran Tierney is OUT of Euro 2024 as he leaves Scotland camp to have hamstring injury assessed by Arsenal after being forced off in Switzerland draw

Kieran Tierney has left Scotland’s Euro 2024 camp to have his injury assessed by Arsenal, ruling him out of Euro 2024.

The defender suffered a hamstring injury, the severity of which was unknown, during the 1-1 draw against Switzerland on Wednesday, despite the Scot being stretched during the match.

He went down after battling Dan Ndoye for the ball, and the 27-year-old’s tournament is almost certainly over. His recovery period will now be determined by his Premier League club.

Scottish medics rushed to treat Tierney and he was sent off with the match later tied at 1-1. depicted back on his feet, but covering his face with his shirt in the tunnel.

He will miss their crucial final group match against Hungary, manager Steve Clarke has confirmed.

The Arsenal defender became the latest addition to Scotland’s long list of casualties, with Lewis Ferguson, Aaron Hickey, Nathan Patterson, Lyndon Dykes, Ben Doak and Jacob Brown excluded from Clarke’s squad before the flight to Germany.

Tierney, who suffered three injuries during his loan spell at Real Sociedad last season, has seen his career destroyed by a litany of setbacks.

He is under contract with Arsenal until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Clarke said after his team’s match: ‘Yes, [he’s] definitively out. It looks pretty bad. Obviously we have to judge it, but Kieran won’t make it to the next game.

‘You have to feel for Kieran. He is in top form and is a top player for us. He always does so well.

“It’s a shame, but someone else has to step in and achieve their goal.”

David Moyes told BBC Sport: ‘He is a huge influence on the way we play.’

“It’s devastating for KT,” Norwich midfielder Kenny McLean said after the match. “We know how big a player he is for us and on a night like Sunday, when we are hopefully much more up front, he would have come alive.

‘I thought he was excellent defensively before he got the injury. Hopefully it’s not that bad for him, but if it rules him out then we have the likes of Scott McKenna and Liam Cooper involved.

‘This gives us even more reason to do it on Sunday. It is clear that Dyksey was also in our camp. They are people who have played a big role in getting us here, so they are going to support the boys.”

Scotland go into their final Group A match against Hungary on Sunday knowing a win is likely to secure their qualification for the last 16.

After struggling in their opener against Germany last week, they picked up a crucial point against Switzerland to virtually control their fate going into the final match.

Clarke has few options to replace the defender, with the likes of Liam Cooper and Scott McKenna vying for the spot.
