Kieran Culkin reveals why has not let his children watch his and brother Macaulay’s classic Home Alone

Kieran Culkin has revealed why he hasn’t allowed his children to see Home Alone, the Christmas classic he starred in alongside his brother Macaulay Culkin.

Macaulay became a star at age 11 in the 1990 comedy, playing a child who is alone in the house when two robbers, played by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern, arrive.

While Macaulay led the cast as the precocious Kevin McAllister, Kieran, who was seven at the time, had a small supporting role as Kevin’s bed-wetting cousin Fuller.

In recent years, Kieran has become a celebrity himself in the drama Succession, playing one of the scheming children of aging media mogul Logan Roy (Brian Cox).

He has been married to his wife Jazz Charton since 2013 and they now share two children: a daughter named Kinsey, five, and a son named Wilder, three.

But even though Home Alone is a Christmas comedy loved by children all over the world, Kieran has explained why his own little ones aren’t allowed to watch it.

“There are still some scary parts,” Kieran said last Monday at The Gothams’ 34th Annual Film Awards in New York City, speaking to E! News.

‘For the three-year-old there is the tarantula [and] there’s the guy at the end who said, “I’m going to bite off all your fingers.” That’s scary for a three-year-old.’

However, Kieran added that the time for change may be just around the corner, teasing: ‘We think they might be ready for Home Alone this year. If not, next year.’

While Kieran raises his family with Jazz, Macaulay and his fiancée Brenda Song have welcomed two sons into the world together: Dakota, three, and Carson, 22 months.

Like Macaulay, Brenda rose to fame as a child, in her case on the Disney Channel with shows like The Suite Life Of Zack And Cody.

Macaulay and Brenda already showed Home Alone to little Dakota and shared the seasonal classic with him when he was one year old.

‘I showed it to him last year, he thinks it’s so funny. I convinced my oldest that he is the kid in the movie,” Macaulay said Entertainment tonight December 2023.

‘I said, ‘Remember when you had yellow hair? Remember when you caught the bad guys?” He says, “Yes!” He’s such a liar. I’m like, ‘You don’t remember any of that.'”

Kieran remembers feeling sympathy for his brother when Macaulay was thrust into the intense glare of international fame as a little boy thanks to Home Alone.

“Even then, as a kid, I remember thinking, ‘That sucks for him.’ Poor damn guy. He was small and had to try to accept that level of fame as reality,” he said Esquire.

Kieran reached new heights of fame in the buzzy HBO series Succession, starring Brian Cox as Logan Roy, the patriarch of a fabulously wealthy and dysfunctional media dynasty.

Logan’s children were played by Kieran, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook and Adam Ruck, amid a cast that included Matthew Macfadyen, Nicholas Braun and Hiam Abbass.

The show ran for four seasons on HBO from 2018 to 2023, earning a devoted fan base and winning a flurry of awards, including 19 Emmys.

Meanwhile, Macaulay has also been acting on the small screen in recent years, such as in several episodes of the megachurch satire The Righteous Gemstones.

He has also had roles in Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story: Double Feature and the cartoon The Second Best Hospital In The Galaxy.
