Kia recall: 4,000 MQ4 Sorentos and MQ4 PHEV Sorentos impacted by software defect

Kia recall: 4,000 MQ4 Sorentos and MQ4 PHEV Sorentos affected by software bug

Nearly 4,000 Kia vehicles have been recalled after it was discovered that the car’s turn signals may not illuminate due to a software issue.

The defects affect the Kia MQ4 Sorentos and MQ4 PHEV Sorentos made in 2022, with fears that the flaw could cause injury or death on the road.

“If the turn signals do not illuminate as intended, other road users would not be able to see if the vehicle is turning,” said the Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communication and Art.

“This could increase the risk of a crash resulting in serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”

Owners of the affected vehicles are urged to immediately contact a Kia dealer to have the defect repaired free of charge.

The latest recall comes as tens of thousands of Kia Sportage mid-size SUVs and seven-seat Sorento SUVs were recalled in June due to a potential software risk that could cause the car to overheat and catch fire.

The safety recall covered SUV models from 2015 to 2021 for the Sportage and from 2014 to 2020 for the Sorento.

Motorists were warned not to drive the affected vehicles until the problem was resolved.
