KFC has brought back a fan favorite secret menu item for a limited time — but foodies are divided on whether it’s worth the hype.
The Popcorn Chicken Plate consists of six soft dinner rolls filled with Popcorn Chicken, dripping cheese and BBQ sauce.
“Is it a chicken burger, or is it a chicken sandwich?” asked a KFC super fan on a group dedicated to burgers, adding that the plate is available until October 31.
“KFC brought this bad boy out of retirement to meet your ultimate hangover treatment needs.”

Group members were quick to whip up the 1,452-calorie dish, and many labeled it an “abomination.”
“Somebody has to get rid of excess frozen chicken balls, hence this bizarre creation,” wrote one skeptical foodie.
“That’s one damn lazy citizen. It was certainly one of the Colonel’s weakest efforts,” added another.
“I can’t even think about eating this.”
Others dismissed the ‘slab’ as a burger, claiming the dish was just a large sandwich.
“It can’t be a civilian,” one man wrote indignantly.
‘The definition of a burger is: a dish that consists of a flat, round cake of ground beef, which is baked or grilled and served in a split bun or roll with various spices and toppings.’
Others were just happy to make suggestions for those trying the dish at home or improving the creation.
“I recommend swapping the BBQ sauce for supercharged sauce and adding bacon,” said one foodie. ‘An extra trick is adding potato and gravy.’
“Certainly,” agreed another. “The BBQ sauce doesn’t do it justice.”
“I’d also say you’re better off buying the buns and $10 popcorn along with a tub of gravy and making it at home,” a third advised.
‘The Popcorn Chicken Slab’ is available at all KFC restaurants across Australia until October 31
The Slab originally debuted in 2020 and has been hailed as KFC’s most popular menu item.
“Following the initial launch of The Slab in 2020, the response from our fans has been tremendous and we’ve had many people demanding the return,” said Sally Spriggs, Chief Marketing Officer at KFC Australia.
“Like all good things, not even The Slab can last forever, so be quick because this encore tour won’t last forever.”
