Kevington search: Missing Melbourne man didn’t return to campsite after a dirt bike ride at Mount Terrible

  • Serious fear for missing camper Steven
  • Went for a dirt bike ride but haven’t heard anything since

A search has been launched for a missing camper who left his caravan to explore rugged bushland on his dirt bike but never returned.

Melbourne man Steven, 58, from Waterways was last seen leaving a Skipworth Reserve campsite at Kevington in Victoria’s high country about 2pm on Friday, where he had been staying in his caravan.

He had called his partner to tell him he was going for a ride on his dirt bike along nearby trails in the Mount Terrible area and promised to call when he returned to the campsite, 235km northeast of Melbourne.

Steven’s partner contacted police after he did not call her back on Friday evening and remained unreachable on Saturday morning.

Police have learned that Steven is an experienced camper and dirt bike rider.

They are very concerned about Steven’s well-being as he always keeps in regular contact with his family when he is away.

An extensive search was launched as uniformed officers, search and rescue team members, the Air Wing unit and SES volunteers searched the area on Saturday.

The search will resume at dawn on Sunday.

Steven is described as white, medium build and has short hair.

He was last seen wearing light-colored clothing and a black helmet with green stripes.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Benalla Police Station on (03) 5760 0200.
