Former Brisbane Broncos coach Kevin Walters appears to have found a new job, according to reports.

The Broncos parted ways with their senior coach in September after a dismal season that saw the 2023 finalists drop to 12th on the NRL ladder.

The 57-year-old’s contract expired in 2026, but it appeared Broncos bosses were looking to cut his time at the club sooner than expected following the Brisbane outfit’s mixed run of results during the 2024 season.

Some were shocked by the decision to let Walters go, given his status as a legend of the club.

As a player, Walters made 237 appearances for the club and won five premiership titles.

According to The Daily TelegraphWalters looks to return to familiar territory and will play a role on the Fox League broadcast team for the 2025 season.

Walters returns to the network after previously providing expert coverage for Fox between 2017 and 2018.

He will work at the broadcaster together with Michael Ennis, Greg Alexander and Mal Meninga, among others.

The former Brisbane coach was quickly replaced by Michael Maguire, who has worked his players hard in pre-season to get his side back on the NRL ladder.

Maguire has received praise from some Broncos stars, including Reece Walsh, who claimed the new Brisbane boss had given him some important advice.

Even after the former New South Wales coach told his players to target the Queensland star during the Origin, Walsh didn’t stop the new coach.

‘Consistency is something I strive for. Madge (Maguire) loves showing up here every day, putting your best foot forward and having a red-hot crack, and I think that’s something I want to build into my game,” he said.

‘You look at players like Payne [Haas]where he shows up at every match and training session. That is very important to me.’

He added: “There have been some really good, honest conversations. These are the conversations you want to have to get better,” Walsh said.

Reece Walsh has praised Maguire for helping him grow and learn as a player

‘It’s about growing as a person and as a player.

‘I want to be that player that everyone wants to play with. Madge drives that.

“I have so much growth in me and that’s what’s exciting.

“I feel like the position I’m playing… it’s time for myself to take on more of a leadership role.”
