Stephen A. Smith has said that Houston Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. should be in jail and immediately dismissed from the team following his arrest on charges of assaulting and strangling his girlfriend and WNBA player Kysre Gondrezick.

Porter, a guard for the Houston Rockets, has pleaded not guilty to assaulting his girlfriend, former WNBA player Kysre Gondrezick.

The alleged attack is said to have taken place at the Millennium Hotel near Times Square in the early hours of Monday morning. Porter was arrested at 6 a.m. Monday.

“Ladies and gentlemen, he should be in jail. He shouldn’t just be sitting in jail… It should be announced immediately that he is no longer with the Houston Rockets,” Smith said.

“And the NBA should follow the NFL’s rule banning wearing an NBA uniform, entering an NBA arena and playing on an NBA basketball court until the investigation is complete.”

Kevin Porter Jr. appeared in court on Tuesday after being arrested for attacking his girlfriend

Kysre Gondrezick was taken to NYU Langone Medical Center after the alleged attack

Prosecutors in New York have specifically accused Porter, saying he didn’t stop hitting Gondrezick until she ran into the hallway covered in blood.

“You don’t lay your hands on a woman,” Smith continued. ‘It’s something you just don’t do. And that Kevin Porter Jr. By doing this, he has besmirched the name of the Houston Rockets. He has tarnished the NBA brand. He sullied his damn name.”

The Rockets reportedly want to trade him, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania. He reports that the Rockets are willing to trade draft compensation with Porter to get him off their team. Despite that, it’s not likely that any team in the league will want to sign him.

Smith then ventured into more personality territory, as the father of two outlined what would happen if his daughters were ever attacked.

“It’s not a popular thing to say, but law enforcement is going to be necessary for anyone who lays their hands on my daughter,” Smith said. ‘I promise you that.

“Yes, I will harm you. Anyone, anyone, any man who puts his hands on my daughter, it’s going to be a problem.”

Gondrezick was taken to NYU Langone Medical Center, where tests showed a fractured vertebra in her neck, according to prosecutors.

“On Monday, September 11, 2023 at approximately 6:45 a.m., law enforcement responded to a 911 call of an assault that occurred at the Millennium Hilton New York hotel, located at 1 UN Plaza within the boundaries of the 17th Precinct,” a statement from the N.Y.P.D. provided to DailyMail.com.

Gondrezick was the fourth pick in the 2021 WNBA draft when she was selected to play guard for the Indiana Fever. However, she struggled in the NBA and eventually returned to the Chicago Sky for the team’s 2022 training camp before ultimately being waived.
