Kevin Costner BREAKS silence over his character John Dutton’s fate in Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone as he reveals his hopes to return for final season

Kevin Costner revealed that he would love the chance to return for the final season of Yellowstone.

While talking about the highly anticipated sixth season of his hit Western drama, set to air in November 2024, the 69-year-old actor confirmed that he is keen to return to his role as John Dutton.

“I would love to, but we haven’t been able to do it,” he told Entertainment Tonight. ‘I thought I’d make seven [seasons] but now we’re at five. So how it turns out – I hope so – but they have a lot of different shows. Maybe. Maybe this will come back to me.”

He continued, “If it is and I’m really comfortable with it [it]I’d love to do it.’

Costner reportedly left the franchise last year amid reports of a feud with 53-year-old creator Taylor Sheridan.

The two-time Oscar winner has reportedly “told people” that he plans to return “for at least a cameo and possibly more.”

He apparently hopes to ‘use’ the wishes of the Yellowstone fanbase, who are eager to see Dutton again.

“Kevin Costner has told people he plans to return for at least a cameo and possibly more, but there are currently no discussions for him to do so,” Puck News’ Matthew Belloni reported.

Even if Costner significantly reduces his financial demands and time commitment, Sheridan may not want to bother reopening his completed scripts to accommodate a farewell for John Dutton. But Yellowstone fans would certainly love what Costner knows and hopes to leverage, as he always does.”

Last year, during a profile of Sheridan, The Hollywood Reporter reported that there were “ongoing discussions” with Costner to film the show’s final episodes. However, the scripts were not yet completed at the time.

Entertainment Tonight reported last year that Costner would leave the series after the current fifth season, amid his alleged split from Sheridan.

Yellowstone officially ends with its current fifth season, but fans have been waiting more than a year for the second half of season five to debut.

The first half of the season aired in late 2022, but filming of the second half has yet to begin.

Recently, one of the show’s stars shared an update on when viewers can expect more of the Dutton family’s exploits, even as creator Taylor Sheridan moves on to other shows.

Ian Bohen, who started as a recurring cast member at the beginning of the series before joining the main cast in season four, recently told Entertainment Tonight that Yellowstone may return to filming in late spring or early summer.

If all goes according to plan, the Paramount Network series would be back on the air in the fall of this year.
