Kevin De Bruyne claims he is ‘BORED’ of playing Wales in international football

Kevin De Bruyne has claimed he is ‘bored’ of playing Wales, with his Belgian side ready for their ninth meeting with the Dragons in ten years on Thursday.

The comment comes after Belgium have met Wales in their World Cup qualifiers and Nations League groups, with the two teams playing tonight in the final round of the Nations League group matches.

“I think half my international career has been against Wales,” said De Bruyne.

‘I do not know why. It’s a bit boring. I think it’s 12 times I’ve played against them, it’s always the same teams.’

Belgium recorded four draws, two wins and two defeats in that time, with Wales proving to be a bit of a bogey team for the team that ranks second in the world.

The Nations League is designed to improve the quality of competition in top international football, limiting pointless friendlies, but that includes regular matches against similar opponents.

De Bruyne has been complaining of ‘always the same teams’ in international football lately

The pool of possible teams to face has of course been reduced, and with the number of international matches increasing, the trend would only go in one direction.

The midfielder also used the last international break before the World Cup as preparation, claiming that the time available is not necessary for his country.

“I don’t think it matters much anymore,” he said.

“We’ve been playing with the same team for years. We’re just trying to finish the two games as best we can and get ready for the World Cup.”

Belgium will face the Netherlands on Sunday after their clash with Wales on Thursday.
