  • Former All Blacks star collapsed while exercising at a gym
  • In 2022, he was diagnosed with a heart condition

Former New Zealand rugby star Keven Mealamu has revealed his health issues after sharing footage of his mental breakdown while working out at the gym.

Mealamu was training at the gym he runs with his wife Latai when he collapsed and hit his head against the wall after falling to the ground.

The incident occurred during a group training session, when fellow gym-goers rushed to the aid of the 130-cap Test veteran when they noticed he was in trouble.

The worrying incident came as the 45-year-old has been struggling with his health for two years, having first been diagnosed with a heart condition in 2022.

Mealamu shared photos of himself and Latai in hospital, receiving treatment for their health issue, before sharing the gym footage that sent the football world into a frenzy.

“Don’t worry about anything, pray about everything,” the caption on his post read.

‘Grateful for the lessons and blessings, love and learning moments.

“Thank you for all your good wishes.”

A number of his former All Blacks teammates, including Ma’a Nonu, Piri Weepu, Tana Umaga and Sama Cane, sent Mealamu their best wishes following his update.

In 2022, he was forced to withdraw from a boxing fundraiser after a routine medical examination revealed an undiagnosed heart problem. An ECG test confirmed that Mealamu had an irregular heartbeat.

It was later confirmed that he has a heart condition called atrial fibrillation, which can lead to heart failure and stroke.

Last year he was hospitalized again due to heart problems.

Latai shared a photo of herself holding Mealamu’s hand two days ago and on Tuesday she said they were celebrating their 25th anniversary.

Mealamu represented the All Blacks from 2002 to 2015 and won the Rugby World Cup twice.

The former hooker was known for his tough and no-nonsense approach to the game.
