A leading doctor who suffered adverse reactions to the Covid shot said many of her colleagues who saw similar side effects felt they couldn’t speak.

Dr Kerryn Phelps, former president of the Australian Medical Association, revealed in a presentation to a Senate Long Covid inquiry that both she and her wife, Jackie Stricker-Phelps, became seriously ill after receiving a vaccine from Pfizer.

Ms Stricker-Phelps suffered numbness in her hands and feet ‘within minutes’ of receiving the needle stick, and was in such pain that her head felt like it was going to ‘explode’.

Dr. Phelps, a former US Parliamentarian, suffered from irregular blood pressure and fever, and both she and her wife experienced the adverse reactions for months.

Dr Kerryn Phelps, former president of the Australian Medical Association, revealed in a presentation to a Senate Long Covid inquiry that both she and her wife, Jackie Stricker-Phelps, became seriously ill after receiving a vaccine from Pfizer.

The doctor said she had spoken with several healthcare professionals and patients who had experienced “adverse events from the vaccine.”

“A good number of doctors I’ve spoken to have felt prevented from speaking up about their concerns about vaccine adverse events,” he told The Today Show on Wednesday morning.

“Due to the statement made by the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency (AHPRA) that doctors should not say anything that could prevent the launch of the government vaccine, and they understood this to mean not raising their concerns publicly.” .

In March 2021, the AHPRA and the national medical boards advised doctors not to “undermine” the national vaccine rollout.

Ms. Phelps, a former federal parliamentarian, suffered irregular blood pressure and fever as a result of a Pfizer injection, and both she and her wife experienced the adverse reactions for months afterward.

“Any promotion of anti-vaccination statements or health advice that contradicts the best available scientific evidence or seeks to actively undermine the national immunization campaign… may violate codes of conduct and be subject to investigation and possible regulatory action,” the statement said. joint declaration.

Ms Phelps said that both she and her wife had “done a lot of homework” on vaccines and believed that, after weighing the risks and benefits, it was the best thing to do.

His reaction came from his second Pfizer injection that he received in July of last year.

“I developed a reaction where my blood pressure, my pulse and my temperature were going up and down all over the place, and with some pretty distressing symptoms and for many months,” she told the breakfast show.

Dr. Phelps was diagnosed with dysautonomia which is related to problems with the nervous system.

He said he reported the reactions to the agency that oversees vaccine safety, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), but they never followed up.

She said other doctors have also “experienced a serious and persistent adverse event” but that “vaccine injury is a topic few in the medical profession have wanted to talk about.”

“Medical profession regulators have censored public discussion of adverse events after immunization, with threats to doctors not to make public statements about anything that ‘could undermine government vaccine rollout’ or risk suspension or loss of your registration,” he wrote in his submission.

The medical expert said she had observed the ‘devastating’ effects her partner experienced for a year and a half after being vaccinated.

Dr. Kerryn Phelps (pictured left with her partner Jackie Stricker-Phelps) said many healthcare professionals felt they couldn’t talk about adverse reactions to the stick.

“With the addition of fatigue and additional neurological symptoms, including nerve pain, impaired sense of smell, visual disturbances, and musculoskeletal inflammation,” he said.

The diagnosis and causality have been confirmed by several specialists who have told me they have seen ‘many patients in a similar situation’.

Ms. Phelps added that it was important to recognize that there are always people who experience adverse reactions to any vaccine or medication.

Former Queensland Premier Campbell Newman said Dr Phelps’ presentation was a “defining moment”.

AHPRA denied that its March 2021 statement inhibited the way doctors perform their duties.

“Doctors should not be afraid to take notes on the vaccine,” an AHPRA spokesperson said.

‘It is good medical practice and a professional obligation for physicians to keep accurate medical records.

“We encourage professionals to discuss the various vaccines with their patients and use their professional judgment and the best available evidence to help the patient make the safest decisions.”

AHPRA said it only intervenes “where the public is at grave risk.”

“Expectations from the Board of Registered Health Professionals in relation to vaccination and public health issues are not new and predate the COVID-19 pandemic,” the AHPRA spokesperson said.
