The actress and author kicked off her book tour this weekend with a performance at Kip Bays Boys & Girls Club in the Bronx.
She will continue the tour on Tuesday with a Q&A at the Perelman Performing Arts Center in Manhattan featuring a conversation with Vanity Fair’s Radhika Jones.

She revealed in the memoir that she had an abortion in her early 20s due to an unplanned pregnancy, not long after landing the lead role in Spike Lee’s 2004 film She Hate Me.
“At first I had a lot of trouble deciding whether or not to include my abortion story… But I started to feel like it was really important for me to share it,” she said.
“This story had so much to do with my understanding of myself and the world as my career unfolded,” she said.
“It’s so important to me that abortion isn’t a bad word, and that my abortion isn’t something on the list of things I’m ashamed of,” she added.
