- Kerry O’Keefe had the commentary team in an uproar with a series of jokes
- The commentators couldn’t help but laugh as the bizarre moment unfolded
Kerry O’Keefe couldn’t resist the chance to crack a few one-liners after a bizarre duck incident that unfolded at the Adelaide Oval on New Year’s Eve.
The unusual moment came as the Scorchers powered their way to a seven-wicket win over the Strikers to secure their position as runners-up in the Big Bash League at the end of 2024.
Finn Allen was the star man for the visitors, hitting a half-century – the highest individual score of the match – while Jhye Richardson staked his claim for a Test call-up for next week’s final match against India, taking three wickets in the process picked up during the Strikers’ innings.
Halfway through the match, commentators were distracted by a duck that had flown in and landed in the Oval.
Cameras focused on the bird before catching the bird droppings on the field.
The commentators were shocked by the moment, but in true Skull fashion, O’Keefe started taking down the puns.

A bizarre incident occurred during the Strikers’ defeat to the Scorchers at the Adelaide Oval when a duck landed on the pitch
‘Whoopsie!’ he joked, before letting out a huge laugh.
“I don’t even know what to say,” said Isa Guha, while Brad Haddin responded, “Excuse me, that would be your first word.”
But Skull continued, speaking of the bird: “Now wash your feet before you meet anyone!”
“I challenge anyone to dive for a catch in that area,” he added, letting out another one of his signature laughs.
“Damien Huff is Australia’s best curator, he’s being attacked with a pooper scooper,” he said, crying to himself again.
“Polly wants a cracker?” he added before saying, “[He] didn’t pay to get in!’
The Australian cricket legend has long made fans cry with his phenomenal one-liners, some of which he even managed to crack during this week’s Boxing Day Test.
On Tuesday he also issued a warning to young batsman Sam Konstas, who made a sensational debut in the Boxing Day Test this week.
O’Keefe started making jokes about the bird after it pooped on the grass, while also challenging one of the players to dive through that particular part of the field.
O’Keefe has also pointed out how young star Sam Konstas can improve his hitting, saying the 19-year-old plays too much with his hands and is losing his front shoulder.
The 19-year-old plundered a half-century from 42 balls and then posted a score of 60 in the first innings.
But O’Keefe believes India have found a problem in the young batsman’s game that the Sydney opposition can exploit.
“They’ve now suddenly found a mistake in his first test that will go around the world,” O’Keefe told Fox Cricket.
“Sam’s front shoulder, he completely loses it and just plays with his hands.
“He pushes his hands toward the ball away from his body. The gap has been created, and [Jasprit] Bumrah went through it,” he added, speaking about Konstas’ dismissal for just eight runs during Australia’s second innings.
“He doesn’t need too many invitations.”
