FIRST LOOK: Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell get back in character as they begin shooting the Good Burger sequel 26 YEARS after the first film

It’s been 26 years, but Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell are finally getting back into the shoes of Good Burger 2.

During their Tonight Show appearance in March, the two stars revealed that a sequel had been ordered by Paramount+, and it looks like cameras are starting to roll in Providence, Rhode Island.

Kel, 44, was seen wearing his checkout uniform on Friday, while Thompson, 45, walked around in casual attire.

A glimpse of the set was also revealed when the iconic Good Burger car was parked next to the fast food dive.

Although it received mediocre reviews from critics, the original 1997 film was commercially successful at the box office and gained a strong cult following.

Thompson couldn’t be more excited to make the sequel when he announced Good Burger 2 on the Tonight Show in March.

He stated, ‘I can’t believe it’s been a little over 25 years since good customer service was born at Good Burger!

“Being a part of something that so many generations of people have come to love has made me so proud and now to be back where it all started, working on the sequel is surreal!”

The original film was based on the comedy skit of the same name on the Nickelodeon series All That.

The teen comedy grossed $23.7 million against an $8.5 million budget and became popular with millennials who grew up with Good Burger and subsequent television series.

In the original, Mitchell played Ed, the teenage cashier at Good Burger, while Thompson made audiences laugh as Dexter Reed, a 16-year-old high school student.

For the sequel, the story follows Dexter and Ed (Thompson and Mitchell) as they reunite in the present at the Good Burger fast food restaurant with a new group of employees.

Phil Traill (The Middle, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Single Drunk Female) directs this relaunch, with Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert (All That and Good Burger) serving as writers and executive producers.

While his Hollywood resume is filled with roles in comedies dating back to his debut in the sports comedy drama film, D2: The Mighty Ducks, Thompson is best known to most fans for being part of the cast of Saturday Night Live.

After joining the SNL in 2003, he now holds the distinction of being the longest-running castmate in the show’s history.

Mitchell was the original cast member of the Nickelodeon sketch comedy All That for its five seasons from 1994 to 1999.

During the series, he was often paired with Thompson, most notably the sketch Mavis and Clavis. It was his role as Ed in the All That sketch that sparked the 1997 Good Burger movie.
