Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have become accustomed to surprise cameos in mid-credits scenes of their films, and that tradition continues in the MCU’s latest film, The Marvels.
In the mid-credits scene, Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) wakes up in a hospital bed, having sacrificed herself to close a rift in the multiverse.
While she sees her mother Maria (Lashanna Lynch) and is happy that she is still alive, Maria admits that she does not recognize her own daughter, while the doctor in the room – Dr. Hank McCoy (Kelsey Grammer) aka Beast – explains that she is from another universe.
Grammer, 68, revealed he was “very excited” to return to the role, which he first played in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, and then briefly in X-Men: Days of Future Past 2014, in a new interview with The cover.
McCoy’s inclusion in the mid-credits scene brings another character from 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise to the MCU, after Professor X (Patrick Stewart) returned in 2022’s Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.

Grammer revealed that he was “really happy” with the cameo’s response, adding that “a lot of people reached out to him” after seeing The Marvels in theaters.
‘I’ve always wanted to play against him again. I see him as an extraordinary character, a real character of gravitas and importance in our culture,” Grammer said.
“I’m really happy that Beast is back and hope he’s back in a real way,” hinting that there may be plans for another road return.
‘I hope you’ll see him again. I can say with some degree of confidence that you will. I would love to do it,” he added.
Marvel is currently in Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the second of three phases of films and TV shows that will be known collectively as The Multiverse Saga.
The introduction of the multiverse means that characters that Marvel had previously licensed to other studios before forming Marvel Studios can essentially be inserted into the MCU canon as is, with those characters simply occupying a different universe.
After Marvel’s parent company Disney purchased 20th Century Fox in 2019, many wondered when the X-Men would be a permanent fixture within the expanded MCU.

Marvel and Disney will be bringing even more characters from the 20th Century Fox films to the MCU with Deadpool 3, which will be released next summer and will be the first R-rated film in MCU history.
Ryan Reynolds returns as Merc With the Mouth, while Hugh Jackman also returns as his beloved Wolverine character.
Fans were also surprised when it was confirmed in July that Jennifer Garner will return as Elektra Nachios, who she played alongside then-future husband Ben Affleck in 2003’s Daredevil and in the 2005 spin-off Elektra.
As for Grammer, he also recently brought another beloved character, Frasier Crane, back to life in the Paramount Plus series Frasier.
