Kelly Stafford – wife of LA Rams star quarterback Matthew – opens up on new cancer scare, four years after brain tumor surgery

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford’s wife Kelly has revealed she thinks she has cancer again.

Kelly, a former UGA cheerleader, had surgery to remove a brain tumor in 2019 after she was diagnosed with an acoustic neuroma.

“I feel like my stomach isn’t great. In the back of my mind I think I have cancer,” Stafford said on her podcast “The Morning After with Kelly Stafford.”

‘Last Tuesday I ended up in the hospital… I had a lot of pain in my stomach and my back.’

“They basically told me it was a stomach flu,” Stafford said.

The family is waiting for the test result to find out more.

Kelly has four daughters with the quarterback, twins Chandler and Sawyer, 6, Hunter, 4, and Tyler, 3.

In 2019, she revealed on Instagram that she suffered from vertigo for months before being diagnosed with a benign mass known as an acoustic neuroma, which was on a nerve that comes directly from the brain.

The tumor is caused by a mutation of a gene on chromosome 22, but what causes the mutation is unclear. About 2,500 new patients are diagnosed each year, according to the National Organization for Rare Disorders.

In April 2019, she underwent the 12-hour procedure. Days later she was in the hospital again in pain.

Recovery hasn’t been easy and in September 2020 she revealed she was still learning to walk.

“I have symptoms that still persist. In fact, they are no longer symptoms. They’re just part of me,” Kelly explained via Instagram at the time.

“But every time I get that headache, lose my balance, or get scolded by my girls for not listening when I really never heard them, I remind myself how much stronger I am.” How much stronger is my marriage. How much stronger is my family. It was part of God’s plan, a plan that I fully support. Grateful to be here.’

But she continued to improve and in March 2020, the couple announced they were expecting their fourth child.

Stafford, née Hall, has long been cheering for her husband and started as a cheerleader for his football player at UGA.

She comes from a football family: Her older brother, Chad Hall, was an NFL receiver and is now the wide receivers coach for the Buffalo Bills.

The pair were together when Matthew was drafted first overall by the Lions in 2009, when Kelly entered the workforce as a nurse.

Matthew proposed in 2014, and in 2015, the lovebirds got married at the Foundry at Puritan Mill in Atlanta, Georgia. The lavish affair included personalized neon trucker hats for guests, as well as a Nike shoe bar — the brand sponsors Matthew — which handed out free shoes to all in attendance.

She previously praised her husband for standing by her during her diagnosis, writing at the time, “Thank you, Matthew. Thank you for taking care of me and our family and always putting us first. Thank you for always being my rock and putting me at ease during the most difficult time of my life.

“I’m lucky to know you and the man you are… but most of all, I’m lucky that you chose me to live with. Thank you.’
