- The handy hack is the latest TikTok food trend, but some people ‘hate’ it
A chef has revealed how to make perfectly ‘light and fluffy’ pancake bites using an ice cube tray, but not everyone was impressed by his ‘no-nonsense’ method.
Kelly Senyei from San Diego, USA demonstrated the breakfast hack at a video posted to TikTok recently, starting a new trend on the site.
The mother-of-four said the trick makes mini pancakes “light and fluffy,” but many noted that it would be easier to pre-cook them before freezing them for reheating later.

Popular cook Kelly Senyei (left) tried out the latest TikTok food trend. The trick is to pre-make the pancake batter and freeze it in an ice cube tray to make mini pikelets later.
Kelly said to start by making “the pancake mix of your choice” and pour the batter into an ice cube tray.
“Any kind of size works and then add your fillings, I bought frozen blueberries and mini chocolate chips – fresh fruit works great too,” she said.
Then the mom covers the tray and puts them in the freezer until they are hard.
“When you’re craving light and fluffy pancakes, scoop an ice cube out of the pancake batter and put them on a griddle over low heat, low heat is key because you want them to cook low and slow,” she said.
“Turn them around, pile on the butter and then the maple syrup and it’s time to dig in.”
Some viewers loved the handy gimmick with one reading, ‘That’s great. My God, I have to try this,’ said one woman.
‘Wow! What is this magic? he asked for a second.
However, others weren’t so convinced and one thought the hack was “nonsense”.
‘This doesn’t make sense to me, just cook them ahead of time and freeze them. Use the toaster or microwave to heat them up whenever you want,” they wrote.
Some viewers loved the handy gimmick, however others weren’t so convinced. “This doesn’t make sense to me, just cook them ahead of time and freeze them,” one person replied.
“It’s a cool trick, but why wouldn’t you just make the pancakes and save your future self some gaming?” agreed another.
‘Am I the only one making pancakes and freezing them as a way to cut down on the extra steps?’ answered a third.
“No, I feel like these would just soak up and soak up the water,” a fourth commented.
One person responded to concerns by saying, “People keep saying they have to be pre-made and frozen, but they’re still fresh and fast this way.”
