Kelly Ripa admits she once jumped off a boat to prove she could ‘fluently’ communicate with dolphins

Kelly Ripa thought she had broken the communication barrier between humans and animals.

The 53-year-old talk show host, who recently responded when her daughter shared a photo of herself in a topless bikini, admitted she once jumped off a boat because she believed she could communicate “fluently” with dolphins.

As Ripa discussed the latest technological developments in animal communication, she recalled a previous encounter with dolphins during a friend’s birthday trip to Mexico.

“They rented a boat for sunset cocktails, and all of a sudden we were in the water surrounded by wild dolphins,” she explained, adding that she had “just done the show in Miami, and we went to the Seaquarium and I swam with the dolphins.

“We were doing a recorded piece where we’re communicating with the dolphins. So I, Kelly Ripa, jump in the water and I say, ‘I know how to talk to the dolphins!’ I’m like, ‘I’m going to call them!'” she joked.

The mother of three said her friends advised her to get back in the boat because the dolphins were not trained.

But Kelly insisted she could speak “fluently” with the marine mammals.

She continued, “Our friend Brian was standing on the bow of the boat and he said, ‘Dude, get back in the boat. Those are wild dolphins, those are not trained dolphins.’

“But I thought I could talk to the dolphins because I had spoken to them so fluently,” she said.

Kelly made the bizarre confession during Tuesday’s episode of Live! with Kelly and Mark, which she co-hosts with her husband of 28 years, Mark Consuelos.

Kelly made her Hollywood debut in 1987 when she appeared as a regular dancer on Dancin’ On Air, which led to Dance Party USA.

In 1990, she landed her first major role as Hayley Vaughan on All My Children, a film that ran for twelve years, earning her three Daytime Emmy Award nominations.

But that’s not the only good thing she contributed to the series.

She met her current husband Mark in 1995, when they starred opposite each other in the series, in which their characters got married.

She remembers the moment she first saw him in a photo: ‘When I saw him, the picture of him, I saw my whole future with him flash before my eyes [my eyes] —as I saw it.’

The couple married in Vegas in 1996, a year after they met. People reported that the couple paid just $179 for it.

But — the journey to say “I do” was kept secret. Kelly said she kept her relationship with Mark a secret to avoid colleagues thinking it would disrupt production.

She told Entertainment tonightWe were married for three months, no one [All My Children] ‘knew we were even in a relationship, let alone married.’

The couple started a family in 1997, with whom they also entertained themselves off-camera.

They have three children: Michael, 27, Lola, 23, and Joaquin, 21.

Kelly and Mark often share glimpses of their family life on Instagram, including luxurious summer vacations and cozy holidays at home.

Their children are also active on social media. And last week Kelly got a lot of ‘likes’ when she responded to the latest topless sunbathing photo of daughter Lola.

The talk show host shared her thoughts with a comment below her Instagram post from 23-year-old daughter on Thursday.

In the cover photo of her carousel, Lola was stripped down and seen sunbathing on a beach towel, without bikini bottoms.

Last week, Kelly playfully responded to her daughter Lola’s topless bikini photo, with both of them referencing the recent “very modest, very thoughtful” viral trend

“Is this demure?” the singer, who shared rare photos with her British boyfriend Cassius Kidston on his birthday last month, captioned her post, referencing the recent viral trend on social media.

Ripa played into the same trend, saying, “It’s very deliberate.”

The ‘very demure, very thoughtful’ trend is a popular catchphrase, coined by content creator Jools Lebron, that is now widely used to parody stereotypical ideas of femininity, subtly joking about being ‘demure, thoughtful and cute’ while boldly doing the opposite.

Social media users are now using the phrase to ridicule their ironically not-so-humble, not-so-thought-out posts or to smear other people for their potentially questionable actions.
