A Queensland woman who ran over two young tradies in her BMW has been found guilty of their deaths.

Kelly Renee Liddicoat, 44, pleaded not guilty at the Maroochydore District Court on October 9 to a single charge of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death while under the influence of an intoxicating substance.

She was accused of hitting and killing Baringa man Lleyton Bartlett, 22, and Currimundi man Aaron Pitt, 25, with a white BMW as the duo carried out a Good Samaritan act by repairing a broken down bus on Nambour on April 21 Connection Rd in Woombye. 2022.

A forensic doctor who tested Ms Liddicoat’s blood after the incident told the court during the trial that no alcohol was found but there was a number of prescription drugs including Valium, Seroquel and Lyrica, the court was told. Courier mail.

On Wednesday, a jury found her guilty after less than two hours of deliberation.

The Courier Mail reported that there were cheers from the public gallery and loud shouts from the defendant after the verdict was handed down.

Liddicoat has yet to be sentenced.

Mr Pitt, an apprentice diesel fitter, was farewelled at an emotionally charged funeral in early May. Friends and family reflected on his ‘short but good’ life.

“He did so much with his life and lived really well and that was a comfort to us because we knew he was so happy,” the eulogy read.

“We all need to live like Aaron did, making the most of every minute, doing the things that bring us joy, being with the people we love and enjoying every moment of every day.”

The 25-year-old had only recently been named student of the year and was widely loved by his colleagues.

Meanwhile, Mr Bartlett was farewelled at a service on Friday 13 May.

The 22-year-old is remembered as a talented hockey player who was a Maroochydore junior, senior and Sunshine Coast rep player until just two years ago.

Police allege Liddicoat was driving west on the Nambour Connection Road, under the influence of an ‘intoxicating substance’, when she mowed down Mr Pitt and Mr Bartlett at around 3pm.

Paramedics rushed the pair to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in critical conditions but they could not be saved.

Liddicoat walked away from the incident unscathed.
