Kelly Clarkson claimed her record label lied to her about her hit Since U Been Gone when she appeared on Watch What Happens Live on Tuesday.
The 41-year-old singer shared her version of the song’s history after being asked remotely by viewers Taylor and Gabriel if she had spoken to music producer Clive Davis, 91, since he released his 2013 memoir that featured stories about her.
‘To wait. He has a memoir of stories about me?,” asked Kelly, who previously refuted Clive’s claims in his memoir.
“He does,” confirmed host Andy Cohen, 55, referring to Clive’s memoir “The Soundtrack of My Life.”
‘Are you serious? Oh, they’re talking about me, aren’t they?,” Kelly joked to the applause of the New York City studio audience.

Andy shared in his memoir that Clive wrote “a lot” about her 2004 song Since U Been Gone.
“I’d like to know his version,” Kelly said.
“His version was that he kind of had to force you to record it, that you didn’t want to put it on your album,” Andy said.
‘Well, here’s why. Let’s get some backstory. I was lied to and they said to me, “Hey, there are producers who want to work with you and there’s this song.” It had some kind of dummy lyrics. They didn’t really have lyrics,” Kelly said.
“I was told you wrote the song and flew me to Sweden. Like, I get there and these two people, you know, [producers] Luke and Max weren’t told I was writing to it and had just already written it and I looked like a fool because I came in and the label told me something completely different,” Kelly said referring to the writers and producers of the song Lukasz’ dr. Luke’ Gottwald and Max Martin.
“I think that’s a red flag as well. Like, why lie to me like that? Why do you let me go there and they have the song. I do not like lying. That’s why I have a bad vibe to that song. There are interesting facts that people like to leave out,” Kelly said.
Andy commented that they played Since U Been gone during the commercial break and everyone in the audience “went crazy and sang it.”
“How do you separate the baggage from the previous issue with the love people have for it?” Andy asked.

‘Oh my God. I’m such a great compartmentalizer. I can put that aside and I’ll be singing all the way out on tour,” Kelly said.
Since U Been Gone was released by record label RCA as the lead single from Kelly’s second studio album Breakaway.
The song was a worldwide success, winning the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance category at the 48th Annual Grammy Awards.
Kelly was on the Bravo talk show promoting her tenth studio album Chemistry which was released last week by the Atlantic label.
Andy and Kelly also performed the show’s signature question-and-answer game Plead The Fifth, in which she asked three questions with the option to plead The Fifth and answer none.
“You once revealed on your show that celebrities were rude to you after your win on American Idol. …Can you name any of those celebrities?’ Andy said.
“Uh, uh,” Kelly replied.
“She’s arguing for the fifth,” Andy said.

“I will say a lot of them ended up on a show like the one I’m from,” Kelly revealed.
Andy then asked Kelly if she could name an American Idol winner from the past five years.
Kelly racked her brains but couldn’t name a single winner.
