Kelly Clarkson believes Scooter Braun ‘took offense’ to her suggesting Taylor Swift re-record albums

Kelly Clarkson opens up about a 2019 tweet she sent suggesting that Taylor Swift re-record her old albums, revealing that she thinks this may have offended Scooter Braun.

In June 2019, Swift’s former record label Big Machine Records was purchased by Braun, making him the owner of her master recordings.

She had tried to buy back her masters for sale, but the label’s founder, Scott Borchetta, refused before selling the company to Braun.

Just a few weeks later, Clarkson sent out a tweet, suggesting that Swift — who had just announced the Australian leg of her 2024 Eras tour — simply re-record any albums she didn’t own the masters for, which Swift eventually did.

During a new interview on Andy Cohen’s Sirius XM radio show, Clarkson revealed that she ran into Braun soon after and thought he “took offense” to her tweet.

Thought: Just a few weeks later, Clarkson sent out a tweet suggesting that Swift – who had just announced the Australian leg of her 2024 Eras tour – just re-record any albums she didn’t own the masters for, which Swift eventually did

The July 2019 tweet read: “@taylorswift13 just a thought you should go in and re-record all the songs you don’t own the masters exactly how you did them but post brand new art and some sort of incentive so fans will see the old no longer buy versions. I would buy all new versions to prove something.’

When Cohen asked about the tweet, Clarkson revealed, “I think Scooter took offense to it because we bumped into each other, and I think he contacted my manager at the time,” she said in the interview clip, which airs in full on Friday.

“I was like, ‘It was nothing against him.’ I just, when she came out and said that [about her albums] and I heard about it, I was like, “Whatever. Re-record them, for example. Your fans will support you.” They did,” Clarkson added.

When asked what Braun said to her, she clarified that he “didn’t say anything to me,” adding, “I think he called my manager at the time, I heard.”

“I don’t know what happened or what was said, but I think he thought I was attacking him. Honestly, I didn’t even know who had the rights,” Clarkson admitted.

‘I didn’t even know all the information. All I heard was, “Man, I really want to own something [my work]added Clarkson.

Clarkson continued that Swift “writes everything” and owning her own music is “so important to her.”

‘She’s a business woman. It felt wrong that she wasn’t given the chance. Right? That’s the point,” Clarkson added.

Writes everything: Clarkson continued that Swift, “writes everything” and owning her own music is “so important to her”

“It’s like being given the opportunity and choosing not to pay that much money, that’s one thing, but not being given the opportunity to own something that really matters to you…I knew it was important to her” Clarkson said. .

She also admitted that she is not the type of artist who would want to own her masters, and that she is “not a businesswoman.”

“I thought, ‘Why don’t you just re-record them and your fans will support you,’ and literally, she’s a genius,” Clarkson added.

“She didn’t just re-record it, she planned it, for example with this Eras Tour she’s going to [perform everything]. This woman, for instance, is brilliant,” Clarkson argued.

When Cohen asked Clarkson if Swift ever thanked her for the suggestion, Clarkson said no.

‘No, she’s brilliant. She would have figured that out on her own, and she might have done that before I even tweeted it,” Clarkson admitted.
